CHAPTER 19
They continued to fall, and as Joey and Phoebe Olsen grew closer to the pits of Hell, Joey could feel his whole body burning, the same sensation he always got in his palms. His mind was running at a million miles an hour, and all Joey could do was hope and pray that this was a dream. Phoebe watched Joey all the time they were falling, but she didn’t show any emotion on her face. There was an instant when their eyes connected, and despite the dire situation they were in, Joey still felt the love he had for his sister.
He didn’t blame her for anything. In truth, Joey worried more about Phoebe than anything else. He couldn’t comprehend how she had ended up being a pawn to Lucifer. He had thought that, perhaps she had ended up in foster care, or perhaps she had died. But the last thing Joey ever considered was Phoebe being the Daughter of Lucifer.
He stopped screaming, and watched as the flames grew closer to them. He was not ready to face this, but he knew he didn’t have any other choice. He wanted so desperately to reach out to his sister and hold her hand within his, but he knew the girl falling with him into Hell was not his sister, no, she was damned.
They landed with a soft thud on their feet, and to Joey’s surprise, the flames weren’t scorching and painful as he remembered it to be. The flames were more comforting than anything else, and at the thought he watched as Phoebe lips curved into a full-on smile.
“Something amusing you, sister?” he snickered with more sarcasm in his tone than anything else. Phoebe kept smiling and took her brother’s hand. He didn’t pull away though. Joey liked how his sister still wanted to hold his hand, even if they were about to meet with Lucifer. He smiled to himself, not turning or looking in Phoebe’s way. But she didn’t fail to notice the smile.
“Welcome home, brother. I can see that Hell has lifted your mood.”
Together, the Olsen siblings walked hand-in-hand up the path that Joey remembered from a prior dream. He knew that once they reach the top, they will be faced with a large iron gate, and that those doors lead to Heaven too. He idly wondered why there were gates to Heaven in the pit of Hell, but decided it was of little importance. He knew he had to keep control and find a way out. Phoebe seemed more relaxed as they walked up the path, her hand squeezing Joey’s affectionately. He couldn’t help but smile again at the gesture, even though his sister’s intentions weren’t good.
“Children, welcome home.”
Phoebe stopped in her tracks and bent down on her knees. She pulled on Joey’s hand to do the same, but he couldn’t find himself doing so. Lucifer was not his master, or father, or whatever he thought himself to be.
“Father, I have brought my brother home, just as you requested.” A loving smile for Lucifer spread across Phoebe’s face. Joey had to stop himself from gagging on the floor.
