CHAPTER 24
Meredith took several steps back as the Archangels made their way towards Phoebe Olsen. Shivers kept running up and down her spine, and she had an unusual feeling in her chest. It felt as though her heart was going into a spasm, but she knew that she was only concerned for Phoebe. She didn’t know the other Guardian Angel, but she cared for her only because she was Joey’s little sister. Meredith wondered what Joey would do if he was in this predicament, but she didn’t know. How could anyone know what to do when they did not even know what was happening to Phoebe?
“What do you mean she is repossessing her humanness?” asked Michael, his eyes failing to hide his suspicion that Meredith had something to do with this.
“She will be human soon,” she whispered, and all of the Archangels turned to look at Meredith. She didn’t know what to do. Certainly they had to know she had nothing to do with this.
But the Archangels quickly returned their attention to the convulsing Phoebe Olsen, and Meredith was left to stand aside. Even Janelle stood hovered over Phoebe, concern deeply carved into her features. The only Archangel who didn’t join in with the worrisome episode was Chamuel, the Archangel of Love. Chamuel moved in a little closer to Meredith and she was surprised when his Aura wrapped around her. She watched him with a worried expression, not knowing what the Archangel was doing.
I sense your love, a voice whispered in her mind. Do not speak aloud; I don’t want them to hear.
Can you hear me? Meredith sent the question to Chamuel, in hopes that the Archangel could hear her. She needed someone to talk to. She needed someone to see why she was doing all of this.
Of course I can, he said, his Aura circling the two of them. It was as though his Aura was alive. I can sense your love for Joey Olsen.
Meredith did a double take at the Archangel’s words. Of course he could sense love; he was the Archangel of Love, in spite of everything. Meredith thought it to be ridiculous if no one could see her love for Joey Olsen. Not only did she love her as her Human, but she loved him more than that. She wanted to be with Joey every second of every day.
The love is forbidden, said Chamuel, the Archangel who couldn’t communicate with words. He made use of mind signals and body language to communicate.
I thought you couldn’t speak? Meredith asked, arching her brow at the Archangel of Love. He smiled at her expansively and Meredith knew there was more to it than he led on. Is there something wrong with me? she thought to herself, though Chamuel answered her question in any case.
You’re different Meredith. You and I, we are more alike than you realize. None of the other Angels are able to understand my signals the way you are able to. Your Aura, I know you’ve seen that it is similar to mine. All Angels have a gift, and your gift is love, just as mine.
