CHAPTER 10
Joey shook violently as he lay in the centre of the ditch. He was still surrounded by the obscurity and he couldn't make out what was happening around him. Meredith had dropped to her knees at his side, and turned Joey on his back. She had his face in a fierce grip between her hands, and was pleading to Joey to open his eyes. At once, Joey stopped shuddering and he was left lying unmoving on the ground.
Meredith's Aura surrounded the two of them, casting a shimmer of white and cerise light amongst them. Joey, in his cataleptic state, saw the sparkles, and slowly but surely he surfaced from his oblivion. He had to narrow his eyes so he could look at Meredith, because the glistening white and cerise light made it hard for him to see. But he caught a glimpse of Meredith's face, and saw tears welling down her cheeks.
"Meredith, why are you crying?" he asked, pushing himself up by the elbows.
Meredith pushed him down promptly, and took hold of the hand where Lucifer's sign had glowed. The sign was still there, though it wasn't glowing anymore. It had left an engraving behind, as though Joey had been marked like some farmer's livestock. She opened his eyes, one by one, with her thumb and index finger, and inspected his eyes with deep absorption. His eyes was neither the grey hue Meredith had become accustomed to, nor was it the blazing fire she had feared. Joey's eyes illuminated a blend of the two colours, and she had no idea what to think of it.
"Joey, are you alright? Can you open your eyes and look at me?"
"No," he grunted, "the light, it's too bright."
Meredith closed her eyes and concentrated on sucking her Aura back into herself. She hadn't known whether it would work or not, but as the seconds ticked by, her Aura diminished and Joey was able to look at her without strain.
"That's better."
He smiled, though Meredith could see that he was in pain, that something had happened when he was caught in the Demon Wings. Joey's eyes zoomed in and out of focus, and as he smiled up at Meredith's face, he lost consciousness again.

"Not again," he grunted to himself as his feet met the marble surface of the room he had last seen the Archangels. He much preferred being in Hell rather than seeing the beautiful, yet dangerous Angels he had come to fear more than Lucifer.
"The Angel has discovered her Aura," said Gabriel, the only female amongst the seven Archangels.
"We have to protect the human race, we have to destroy Joey Olsen," said the Angel with the bluish-purple Aura. He remembered who he was; Michael, the leader of the Archangels, the protector of good against evil.
