Coraline and Wybie slept in the other pink palace master room for what seemed like only 2 hours. They felt pretty tired until they looked outside to see the sky clock say it was 9:00 in the morning. The kids appeared in the mirror. Cypress was hiding in the corner of the room, Archer was banging on the glass as if he knew Coraline and Wybie could see him, then it switched to Phoenix, who now had buttons for eyes. "No! NO! Phoenix, Cypress, Archer! My loves, we'll save you!" Coraline shouted as their pictures faded. Both Wybie and Coraline raced out of the room, and started searching the pink palace apartment for the second piece of the wand.

Coraline searched low while Wybie searched high. Now that they knew they were looking for a black cylinder shaped piece of wood, they felt better about their chances of winning. Coraline was searching the stairs when one of the stairs seemingly came to life, and started attacking her. She screamed, so Wybie came rushing to her aid. He pried the wood off Coraline's arm, then pulled her away protectively. "Something tells me we're close." Wybie says. Coraline looked down at her wrist. She was bleeding, but only a little. Wybie went into the shed outside and found a hammer.

Coraline took the flashlight that Wybie had yesterday, and started looking harder around the stairs. At first, there was little luck until she saw an odd shaped board under the carpet on one of the stairs. Carefully, Coraline reached for it to lift it, only for the carpet to come to life, wrap around her arm, and fling her down the stairs. Wybie came at it with the pointed side of the hammer, pounding it while trying to tear it up. While Wybie was attacking the rug, Coraline went back in to see if the cylinder was the wand, but it was gone.

The carpet was destroyed, but Coraline knew what she saw. She went outside of the other pink palace and into the backyard. A black cylinder piece of wood was rolling towards the forest on its own, as if it were either alive, or being moved by an invisible force. She went chasing after it, and almost caught it. Suddenly, a giant black rat appeared. The last time Coraline saw these rats, they weren't this big, or that dark in fur color. They still had the spooky buttons, but these buttons were red. It squeaked loudly at her, picked up the wand, and started to run away. Wybie and Coraline chased after it. Before they could reach the woods, Coraline picked up a rock and threw it at the rat. It hit the rat on the head, knocking it out.

Just before Wybie could pick it up, it evaporated. "No!" He yells. Coraline felt at a loss. She opened her bag to look at the one piece of the wand they found, but noticed some writing on it. "Wybie, look." She took it out of the bag, and saw some kind of foreign language on it. "What is it?" "I don't know, but maybe it's the spell." Coraline and Wybie agreed to split up again to keep searching. Coraline went back to the basement while Wybie searched the garden. Just like yesterday, Coraline saw a black piece of wood shaped like a cylinder close to the top of the curtain on the stage. She wondered how she was supposed to get it until she noticed a ladder behind the curtain.

Coraline carefully moved the ladder to underneath where she saw the wand piece, and began to climb. When she got to the top, she still couldn't reach it. She wasn't sure where to go from here, but a nearby mirror showed Cypress being dragged away by an invisible force. "Mommy! Daddy! I don't want button eyes!" She cried. Coraline gasped. Her panicking almost made her fall off the ladder until she saw a rope. There was no other option. She jumped from the ladder, caught the rope and began to climb it. It must have been her motherly love that got her blood pumping since she managed to reach the wooden beam.

Coraline climbed onto the beam and started to crawl towards the wand piece. She pried it out, but the structure started breaking. Wybie came running in. "Coraline! I found the piece that was in the apartment upstairs." But he stopped in his sentence, noticing Coraline about to fall. He gasped, then ran towards the stage. Coraline jumped off the beam and onto the ladder. She started climbing down, the the stage was still collapsing. When Coraline only had a few steps left, she jumped the last few, then fled the stage with Wybie pulling her hand. When they got to the back of the theater, the whole stage had collapsed, but it wasn't over yet. The whole basement started to shake, causing Coraline and Wybie to start running again. They ran out of the basement and watched the other pink palace sink after the lose of the basement. Coraline and Wybie looked down at the second piece of the wand, then Coraline tried to piece it together to see if she could match the wording on the inside of the wand.

"We're getting it." She says, looking at Wybie. Just then, a swarm of bat dogs came charging at them. Coraline and Wybie ran, then split up to confuse the bat dogs. Coraline found a pair of sticks, then quickly started a fire with them, scaring away the bat dogs. With the fire still on her sticks, she hurried back to Wybie, then fended the bat dogs away. "This fairy is not going down without a fight." Wybie says, panting. "Neither did Florence when I did this with her. Something tells me this is going to get more and more dangerous as we find more pieces of the wand." Just then, the thunder that Wybie and Coraline heard yesterday was heard again, only closer.
