Chapter 17: Majestic Wings

"When do you think that egg will hatch? It's almost a month now," Iris studied Ash's egg.

Ash looked at the egg, "I don't know, but I can't wait to see what Pokémon it is."

"I bet it's going to be a cutie," May cupped her face.

"Pokémon eggs are mysterious. We know very little of how the Pokémon that hatches is determined or what traits it will have," Cilan rubbed his chin.

"Whatever Pokémon it is, I know it'll be a great partner. You'll help it out, won't you, Pikachu?" Ash turned to Pikachu.

"Pikapi!" Pikachu cheered in agreement.

"Ax axew ax," Axew also volunteered.

Iris petted Axew, "You've never seen a Pokémon hatch, have you Axew?"

Axew nodded, "Axew ax."

Right as Ash thanked the little dragon, the container started shaking. "Talk about perfect timing," May looked through the glass.

"It's hatching!" Iris clasped her hands as the egg wobbled.

"Look at it shine," Cilan was captivated.

The egg took the shape of a humanoid Pokémon. It jumped out of the container, breaking the glass. Its surprise escape caused Ash to drop the broken container, and the others turned to the newborn Pokémon. It resembled a lizard with oval-shaped eyes. It sported a small red scale on its yellow head. Below the yellow portion of its head, its body was cream-colored, with thin arms and a red, scaled belly. It held up the molted skin around its legs, which resembled trousers. The baby Pokémon turned around. "Scrag," was the only thing it said when it saw the humans.

"What Pokémon is that?" May raised an eyebrow, still startled by Scraggy's entrance.

"It's a Scraggy," Iris smiled, still looking at the newborn.

"Scraggy?" Ash reached for his Pokédex.

"Scraggy, the Shedding Pokémon, the lower half of Scraggy's body is covered by tough, rubbery skin. When someone makes eye contact, it responds with a Headbutt," the machine informed.

Ash approached the baby with his friends. "Hey, Scraggy, I'm Ash," the teen kneeled to greet it.

"And we're your friends," May kneeled next to Ash to give a warm welcome.

"Scraggy?" Scraggy tilted its head in confusion.

"Pika pikachu!" Pikachu introduced itself to the baby. Scraggy looked at Pikachu and glared. The Fighting-type charged at Pikachu with a Headbutt, but the mouse easily dodged by leaping off Ash's shoulder. The Shedding Pokémon's face landed on the ground, alarming the kids.

"Scraggy tried to hit Pikachu the moment it introduced itself," Iris disapproved. Cilan looked puzzled.

"Yeah, what's up with that? It nearly hit me," Ash stood up with May.

"Scraggy tend to do that like the Pokédex stated. They feel like it's natural," Cilan explained to his friends.

Axew jumped out of Iris's hair and walked over to Scraggy, who was getting up after missing Pikachu. "Axew ax ax," Axew extended its claw to the Dark-type.

Scraggy looked at Axew's hand, "Scrag, scraggy!" the little one charged at Axew with a Headbutt. It sent Axew rolling back to Iris's feet.

Iris picked him up before he could attack Scraggy, "You have to have patience with it, Axew. It's just an infant."
