Chapter 49: Wonder

Roxas's Charizard descended through the wrecked ceiling to join his trainer and their allies. The Fire-type Pokémon growled when it used Flare Blitz on one of the Genesect, bashing the Bug-type Pokémon against the steel wall. "Maybe I overestimated your Genesect Army?" Roxas watched Charizard step back. Ash, May, and their Pokémon were stunned by Charizard's might.

Zero smirked, "No, you underestimated them." The group of Genesect used Techno Blast on Charizard. The beam consisted of a blue energy. Roxas's eyes widened, recognizing it as the Water-type version of Techno Blast.

May intervened, "Victini, stop it with Psychic!"

"Vi!" Victini used its psychic powers to redirect the blasts at the Genesect.

"Techno Blast again," Zero remained unimpressed.

The Genesect countered with the Electric-type version of Techno Blast, astonishing the trainers. "The drives," Ash realized that the Genesect had them equipped.

"We were too late," May clenched her teeth.

"Indeed you were," Zero sneered at them.

Roxas groaned, "No time to worry about that. We need to fight." Ash and May knew he was right. They nodded and turned their focus to the battle.

Ash punched the air, "Pikachu, use Electro Ball!"

"Pika!" Pikachu launched an Electro Ball. One of the Genesect used an Electric-type Techno Blast to stop Pikachu's attack.

May focused on the others, "Blaziken, use Fire Spin!"

"Blaz!" Blaziken's wrists flared. The Blaze Pokémon didn't hold back on firepower. "Fire!" May extended her arm forward.

"Charizard, lend them a hand with Flamethrower!" Roxas stayed in the fray. Charizard stretched its wings when it fired Flamethrower. The attack strengthened Blaziken's Fire Spin when it traveled across the room.

Zero looked amused, "Techno Blast." As though they read his mind, the Genesect used a Water-type Techno Blast to halt the assault.

Victini got involved, "Victini!" The Victory Pokémon used Fire Blast. Its attack lit the room. It seemed nothing could hold back the fierce flame. Suddenly, the red Genesect got between Fire Blast and its purple counterparts. The red Genesect fired a Fire-type Techno Blast that nullified Fire Blast, alarming Victini with its power.

Zero put his hand on his hip, "I know you expected a fight, but this is very one-sided. Besides, we have places to be." The villain looked at the hole in the ceiling. Almost as if they read his mind,  the Genesect changed into flight mode and bolted out of the lab. "So long," Zero flicked his fingers and escaped via a portal.

"No, come back!" Roxas looked up at the fleeing Genesect. He wished to save them, but his pleas were futile. Roxas retracted his hand and tightened his fist in anger.

May had her hand on his shoulder, "They're gone."

"We tried," Ash had his hand on Roxas's other shoulder.

Roxas lowered his head, "I wanted to save them."

"Pika," Pikachu and Victini lowered their ears in disappointment. Blaziken and Charizard eyed the floor in defeat, upset at their inability to make a difference.

Though hesitant, May felt compelled to comfort him. "We still can," the determined girl looked at him.

Ash also refused to see him distraught. "And we will," Ash didn't lose faith. Roxas looked at both of them. He didn't know what to say but was glad they were there. Their conversation was interrupted when they heard Dialga's roar above them.
