The new day arrived, and it was time for the friends to carry out their assignments. "You guys take care, alright?" Cilan looked at Ash and May.

"We will," Ash and May answered.

"I don't get why Hilda and Hilbert get to go with you," Iris sighed.

May curled her lip, "I'm sure Roxas has his reasons for why he isn't sending you with us." She wished Iris and Cilan could tag along.

"It will only be temporary," Cilan reminded the future Dragon Master.

Iris nodded with a sigh. "Right. Promise us that you'll be careful. Cilan and I won't be around to help with medicine or food," Iris's motherly instincts turned on. The couple laughed at her affection, making Iris defensive. "I'm serious!"

May answered in a gentle tone, "We promise that we'll be careful, Iris."

"Axew ew ax," Axew also begged Pikachu and Victini to look after themselves.

"Tini vi," Victini assured Axew that it would manage.

"Pikachu pi," Pikachu gave Axew a peace sign.

"We'll see you soon," Ash nodded at Iris, Cilan, and Axew.

Cheren and Wes approached them, "It was a pleasure to meet you both. Best wishes on the rest of your journey."

"You're an impressive bunch. I look forward to hearing what you accomplish down the road," Wes crossed his arms.

"Thank you," May bowed at them.

Ash raised his fist, "The next time we meet, I want to battle each of you." Cheren and Wes smirked at him. They complied with Ash's wish.

With that said, Ash, May, Pikachu, and Victini boarded the International Police helicopter. Roxas, Hilda, and Hilbert had already buckled for the trip. The couple and the Pokémon waved at their friends until they lifted off. "Best wishes," May placed her fist over her heart when she thought of Iris, Cilan, and Axew.

As the chopper traversed the Unova sky, Roxas filled them in, "We should arrive at the desert in 10 minutes."

"Can I ask why you sent us instead of Iris and Cilan?" Hilbert tried to make sense of it.

Roxas eyed him, "The mission Iris and Cilan will get briefed on would be best handled by them. Secondly, consider this your training for what's to come in the mission to follow. You two have good chemistry in battle, but I want you to learn from two trainers with great chemistry in battle." Roxas turned to Ash and May. The couple appreciated his compliment while Hilda and Hilbert blushed.

"What's the plan exactly?" Ash changed the topic.

"The Light Stone is found at the bottom of the Relic Castle. We'll descend however we need to, but I suspect we'll meet resistance when we arrive," Roxas crossed his arms.

Hilda looked out the window, "Hey, look! I can see the sand!" The others, save for Roxas, peeked outside. It extended as far north as the eye could see, with Castelia City bordering it.

"We've come at a good time. Sandstorm season recently ended, so it should be a smooth and visible ride," Roxas informed them.

"That's a relief," May admired the sea of sand.

"Is that the Relic Castle?" Ash spotted an unusual structure in the distance.

Roxas unbuckled to have a look, "That's the one." Roxas smirked, "I guess that means it's time." The trainer strapped on a vest.
