"Volcarona, summon Heat Wave," Alder stood firm.

Volcarona formed a red-orange ball, then blasted a blazing red wind at Lucario. Roxas focused, "Lucario, dodge using Extreme Speed." Lucario's appendages lifted, and a white aura enveloped it; the Fighting-type dodged the Heat Wave and rushed at Volcarona. Roxas wrapped things up when Lucario got near. "Close Combat." Alder gasped at how fast Lucario closed in. The Aura Pokémon delivered multiple strikes until it knocked Volcarona against a tree trunk. Alder's Bug-type was out cold.

"Amazing," Alder was almost speechless when he recalled Volcarona. He thanked his friend for his effort. The Champion looked at Lucario and Roxas, "You're as strong as they say, Roxas. Consider me impressed."

"I appreciate the compliment," Roxas and Lucario bowed.

Alder's smile turned into a stern gaze, "Although, there's something I've wanted to ask."

Roxas raised his eyebrow, "What would that be?"

"There are whispers amongst the International Police and within the Unova League that you hold a special attachment for our friends from earlier," Alder crossed his arms. "They are also convinced you are not from our time."

Lucario groaned. Before the Aura Pokémon could say anything, Roxas spoke, "Is that what you've heard?"

"Mmmmm," Alder nodded.

Roxas took a deep breath, "All I'll say is that once everything is said and done, I'll start my journey to become a Pokémon Master and Contest Master."

"You sound confident of our victory," Alder smiled.

"Because we either win or die, but I refuse to suffer my family's fate," Roxas warned.

"So the rumors are true?" Alder's eyes grew.

Roxas lowered his head, "I started my journey around the same age as my father and mother, but not because I wanted to but because I had to. I've trained ever since then for the moment we are living now. I won't allow any of it to be in vain." The trainer clenched his fists.

Alder put his hand on Roxas's shoulder, "We will see that it isn't. You have our backing."

"I still remember our hikes up Mt. Coronet in the winter and the summer treks across the Hoenn Desert. We depended on each other to survive," Roxas muttered. He didn't look up.

Alder sounded interested, "Your parents and you?"

Roxas nodded sideways. He raised his eyes, "My sister and I."

"Emo," an Emolga lay on the lake shore, relaxing under the sun.

"Pal," a Palpitoad rested on a lily pad near the lake shore by Emolga.

"Stun," a Stunfisk rested on the surface of the water. It enjoyed the sun's rays while hanging out with Palpitoad and Emolga.

"This looks like a perfect spot for lunch," a voice said, catching the attention of the three relaxed Pokémon. "You bet!" a few more voices caught their ears. The group of three saw some humans approaching their lake with a Pikachu, an Axew, and a Victini. The trio's stress-free faces transformed into glares. They all looked at each other.
