Chapter 18: Emperor's Game (Part 2)
"THEN WHY WERE YOU SO EASY TO CURSE!?"
"It's my power, kid. And before you showed up, I spent my whole life wasting it."
"We'll find a cure, just don't leave us!"
"Please, no!"
"You're gonna go far...I just...wish I could've watched."
"Go back to your world. This one is ours."
"Hey, um, where's Eda?"

Flint's eyes shot open. He breathed heavily as he tried to calm himself down. He lay still as the bleariness cleared from his eyes, allowing him to look around. The surface beneath him crackled a bit as he moved, as he realized he had not fallen asleep in his sleeping bag. The ceiling above him was different. From what he could gather, it seemed that he was in Eda's nest in her room.
Noticing an unfamiliar weight on him, Flint's eyes drifted down to see an arm draped across his chest, as he realized that he was still in his Hexside uniform. He followed the arm to see Luz, clung to his left side as she slept.
Flint's brow furrowed. He didn't remember falling asleep, let alone sleeping next to Luz. The last thing he remembered was coming home and King asked where-
Oh, right. Eda...
The events of yesterday flooded his mind, causing him to frown. He moved to get up, slowly shimmying his arm out from under Luz. His attempt was thwarted when Luz subconsciously clung to him tighter, as he noticed the tear-marks on her face.
Oh Titan it hurt to see her like this.
Flint gathered that it was around 10 or 11 o'clock at this point. Given they hadn't eaten at all on the way home last night, he needed to get breakfast ready.
Flint cast a spell, causing him to substitute himself with a pillow as he got to his feet outside the nest. Hooty must've put them there while they were asleep. Flint inwardly thanked the house demon for the gesture as he exited the room, heading downstairs to an...admittedly awful smell of burnt food, and a somewhat painful sight.
Standing there was Eda, who was currently scrambling to try and redeem the burnt eggs she was trying to make with King on her shoulder.
Noticing his presence, Eda jumped a bit. "Oh! Flint! I didn't hear you come in! Um, breakfast might be a bit late." Eda said nervously.
Flint stared at her for a minute before letting out a tired sigh. "Please, don't do that right now."
Eda sighed as King hopped off her shoulder before the woman's form disappeared in red light. In her place was now an ashamed-looking Zorua.
"I'm sorry. I just- I thought-" Trixx tried to apologize, but Flint crouched down and picked her up, giving her a reassuring hug.
"I know," Flint said as the fox nuzzled into him. "Let's clean this up and I can make us all something, okay?"
Trixx nodded, jumping out of his arms and into her Bosch-a-like form.
King scratched the back of his head. "We tried, but you make it look so easy."
