“This is awful! Why is nothing in this world fair!” I yelled. Raven sensed my anger and rested a hand on my shoulder. His shadowy wings wrapped around me pulling me against him in a tight hug.
“Death is, she treats us all the same. Harpie human dragon. None can escape her grasp in the end.” he muttered calmly. I could feel myself growing calmer.
I was woken up in the morning by Sapphire. “I woke you up for breakfast.” she said smiling as she held out a salad. I ate it quickly.
Once I was finished I looked up at Sapphire “show me the vents.” I said calmly, Sapphire could tell there was something wrong by my tone however. She must have decided not to pry because she didn't bring it up. She waved me over and climbed on top of a few boulders to the vent. I flew there.
I used a knife from the weapon rack to unscrew the screws keeping it in place. The boulder was right by the vent. The bottom of the vent touched the boulder so if we put the metal grate in front of the vent while we are inside the guards won't notice if they decide to check. I climbed in but told Sapphire to wait outside.
The tight space made me claustrophobic but I pressed on. My wings couldn't open and there was barely enough space to turn around. I keep crawling through the vents. The screws dug into my palms leaving small marks.
Eventually I heard voices. I followed them to a grate. I looked down through the grate into another team's room. I saw Orca yelling at one of the fairies from the leviathan fight. I realized the other creatures didn't move to help. They had a fairy for level one, level two was a dwarf for level two, I couldn't see level five but I could see movement from their cave sometimes. Then Orca was level four. Their Level five looked like a changeling but I couldn't be sure since all the pictures in books looked vastly different.
I turned around not wanting to see the small weak morph get hurt and continued through the vents eventually I came across a break room. It looked like the guards would come here. It could be a possible escape.
I turned around since I had already spent too much time in the vents. When I came back however I noticed our vent turned another direction. Curiosity took over me and I went through it. Eventually I came across a grate in the floor of the vent and looked down. I was still in the ceiling so I looked down on the guards outside our room. I had a few small pebbles in my pocket I fidgeted with so I decided to test something. I dropped a pebble they didn't notice. If I could get a pouch with enough pebbles it would be able to knock one out probably. After all, they didn't wear helmets.
I quickly turned around and went back into my team's room. I kicked open the grate and quickly launched myself out of the tight vent and into the air.
I stretched out my wings and enjoyed the free space. I flew in a circle before landing and seeing a very upset Cobalt with a very guilty looking Sapphire.
“You're an idiot.” Cobalt hissed out. “I told you there is no way we can escape. Even if we do, where would we go!” I looked at Sapphire who wouldn't meet my gaze. Apparently her shoes were now very interesting.
“What about the resistance? I'd like to be able to drive my spear through a few people.” I mumbled the last part. Cobalt and Sapphire looked concerned.
“Are you ok… you're acting strange.” Sapphire said gently, her hand reaching out. I swatted it away.
“I’m fine!” I spat. I balled my hands into tight fists. He will pay. I winced as I felt my nails dig into my skin. Sapphire noticed and grabbed my hand forcing it open. She gasped as she saw my claws stained red with my own blood. She led me over to the pond. Luna and Raine were over there and ran over to us. Luna's eyes widened at the crimson liquid. Sapphire calmly cleaned my palm with one of our scraps of fabric. Luna hugged me and cuddled up.
“What happened?” she mumbled. Her bottom lip trembled.
“I'm fine! Why do people keep asking!” I snapped. Her eyes welled up with tears and she sobbed. I quickly realized my mistake. “I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Shh it's ok.” I opened my arms and she cuddled up resting her head on my chest. “I've just been stressed, that's it.”
Sapphire shook her head. “I've known you for years. You've never hurt yourself before because you were stressed.” She emphasized the last word. “Tell us what's going on.” I sighed.
“I learned something… bad about what happened to Raven and how he died.” I mumbled. Cobalt, Luna and Rain all snapped to attention. “My uncle.” I shook my head “andrew. He hurt Raven badly. From what I understand, Raven had to do everything that Andrew said and if he disobeyed…” I trailed off. “Anyway I… I have to help Raven.”
Luna trembled. “That's awful. Poor Raven, he must have been so scared.”
“Ok. if we get out of here I'll take you to the resistance. We'll need backup.” Cobalt smiled sadly. “We will help you. Just remember that. we are here for you.” He smiled as his tail wrapped around me loosely. I knew it was his attempt to comfort me. I smiled softly.
