Serene and Maika were captured not long after; those electro whips had wrapped around their necks like collars and forced them to yield, threatening to take their consciousness away. They had been tied up and promised to be broken properly before being sold, allowing Serene, for the first time, to hear the word 'slave' and, unfortunately, would not be the last time.

Before they could be taken away, though, Borrei and the warriors of the Forest Clan appeared. They were faster, more powerful, and had a numerical advantage. It did not take long to dispose of the two aliens for good, who Serene eventually found out were called Zygerians.

That day, she and her friends were scolded for their recklessness and stubbornness to stay and fight, almost losing their freedom and potential lives.

However, that was not fully what Lady Pandora saw.

The very same night, she had gone for a late-night flight with her daughter, eventually settling on top of a very tall tree. It was there that she gave her the electro whip of one of the Zygerians.

"This is yours from now on", she had told her.

"But I didn't win the fight, mother. I lost and got captured," Serene argued, looking into the matching grey-blue eyes of the woman who had birthed and raised her.

"You stood your ground when your people needed you. You did not leave them when they were injured," she reminded her daughter. "A true leader never stays back when her people are fighting, and she never leaves them behind in order to escape harm selfishly."

Those words had been imprinted on Serene's mind, and after that adventure, the Phoenix Heiress changed. She was no longer interested in games of tag or stupid dares and no longer hanging out with her peers.

Since then, Serene has done her best to become a worthy leader, as her mother told her. She studied hard and trained harder, mastering her flight skills faster than many. She worked on connecting with the Mothra, studied politics, and attended meetings with her mother, doing everything to be ready for when her time would come.

She glanced at the electro-whip by her waist, her fingers gently touching the worn-out metal. It was the same electro-whip that had forced her to yield as a child, whose scars she still bore faintly at the base of her wings.

Ironically, she found the same weapon tailored to her needs. It allowed her to keep her distance; it could harm but also grab an opponent, and with enough practice, she could even block a shot or two heading her way.

"Serene...serene!" Padme's voice snapped her from her thoughts, making her look up at her fellow senator.

"Huh?" Serene exclaimed, realizing that Padme had been telling her something, but she was too lost in her thoughts to pay attention.

"Are you okay?"

She offered a small, flat smile. "Yes... just thinking, that's all," she confessed, not a full lie. "You have ways of expressing your worries; I have mine."
