Dib sat up, rubbing his head as he adjusted his glasses. Sam was sitting at the window watching something carefully. Zim was gone, and so was Mrs. Bitters. "You look nice," she casually said to Dib. It was a horrible lie, his clothes were ragged and his hair was a mess. His face throbbed as if he had a large bruise on his jaw the size of a footprint.

"Come on, we need to talk," Sam said, jumping down the windowsill and holding out a hand for Dib. He smiled weakly at the thought of holding her hand even for a second. The boy grabbed it, her soft, warm flesh meeting with his. She pulled him up so ferociously that Dib didn't even have to use any of his muscles. "You're strong for a girl," he commented. She gave him a look. "I mean, uh... no offense!" he stuttered nervously.

"Follow me, Dibs."

Dib almost forgot she had a sweet British accent. Did she like him? Was that why Sam called him "Dibs"? Although he was a virgin, he knew girls made nicknames for boys they like. They walked down the empty hall; the lights were off and Dib almost tripped over someone's corn and mayonnaise from Wednesday.

They stopped walking when they went into the teachers' lounge. "Sit down," Sam ordered. "Well, I kinda sat all day. Studies show that sitting for a long time makes you--" "Sit!" Sam cut him off harshly. Dib quickly sat in a maroon chair with a small coffee stain.

The girl poured some coffee into two cups, one for her and one for Dib. She handed him the mug, steam rolling off the top. "You know, Dibs, for a paranormal investigator, you'd think I wouldn't know by now," she started. "Know what? And it's Dib, by the way." Sam chuckled, taking a sip of her coffee. "You like me."

Dib stared at her beautiful face, his eyes wide. "Do you like me?" he asked. Why else would they be here...alone? Sam shook her head. "Why do you think I saved Zim instead of helping you?" Sam asked. She likes ZIM?! Dib thought, a look of shock and anger on his face. Then he looked sad. Of course she does. Everyone I like loves my enemy!

"I know what you're thinking...Dib. Maybe if you two were friends I'd like you, but I can't be in love with someone who hates my crush. I'm sorry," she said, putting her empty cup in the sink. "Yeah, maybe," Dib replied blankly. How could he possibly be friends with an alien who tries to destroy Earth?! It was insane...he was insane.

Sam left the room and Dib was alone, his steaming coffee left untouched in his hand. "I'm not a fan of coffee anyway," he said to himself, dumping it out in the sink. If he wanted even a slight chance of winning Sam's love, he would have to befriend the alien, and Zim would have to accept him. "This is gonna be hard..."
