The contract wasn't over yet, just a couple of months remaining but Hamilton had been doing better than ever and Vera had to come back to LA because the moment Allison had announced she was pregnant, Hades had decided they go back to New York and start a family there. It was all hugs and goodbyes on the day they left.

It was the eighth month and Allison had a protruding belly by now that Hades personally loved to make fun of as often as possible. She had gained a few pounds and was always whining that none of her clothes fit anymore but he didn't care. Infact, he loved watching her tossing her clothes and shoes all over the place, fuming.

"Darling you're housing another human inside of you. How do you expect to remain the same?"
"But I'm getting fat!" She whined.
"Is that a problem?"
"Shouldn't it be?" She pouted, sadly. "I'm not beautiful anymore."
"Who told you that?" He asked in disbelief.
"My mirror."
"That one lied." Hades smiled. "Let me be your mirror, sweetheart and I say you're extremely beautiful even now and I love you even more darling, extra pounds and all." He said, kissing her forehead as she blushed, flattered.

On that particular day, Hades who wouldn't stop inquiring if it was a boy or a girl coming, took her to the baby supermarket.

"I still think we're having a girl, love." He said for the tenth time that day.
"If you're so curious, why not let me go for a scan?"
"A baby reveal? No way!"
"Why?" She laughed. "Scared that you'll end up wrong?"
"No, just I like the suspense for now. We'll wait till the date when you deliver. It's more exciting."

Vera had wanted a girl back then and he had wanted it to be a boy and now with Allison, it was vice versa. Why was it that none of his women ever seemed to be in sync with him?

"What are we doing here Hades? Let's go home."
"No we still haven't gotten anything for the baby."
She watched him, her heart warmed inside of her. He was so excited about the child she was carrying, she had never seen him more conscious about something else.
"But how can we do that when we don't know the gender?"
"Oh?"
"See?"
"But still...we could get something unisex."
"I doubt if unisex exists for babies. The goal is for people to know what you're carrying."
"I'll look." Hades said, not giving up.

Allison smiled at him, finding a place to sit as he moved around. Just then a woman grabbed her arm, she flinched and turned around. It was a lady in tattered clothes.

"Could you spare me some change, sweet lady? I'm sure your child will be as beautiful as you."
"Oh? Thank you." She smiled, searching her purse for a few dollar notes. She stretched a couple out but she noticed the woman's face seemed oddly familiar.
"Thank you, child." The woman thanked, taking the money from her. Allison gasped, shocked to the bones.

"Mother?!"

Hades had joined the two women by that time. So this was her mother? The one responsible for all her past traumas. What a reunion!

"Allison?"
"What happened to you, mom?" She asked, tears trailing down her eyes.
"Life happened." Patrice shrugged, peering into her daughter's eyes. She was stunned at how much little Allison had blossomed into something so beautiful. Who could have thought?
"You're pregnant?"
"Well yes, I'm married."
"Oh..."
"I thought I'd never see you again mother."
"Your eyes were never hurt that bad?" Her mother asked, suddenly realizing.
"Oh...erm well, lenses, contact lenses."
"Medicated. I see. Good for you then." Patrice said, remorselessly. As she eyed Hades.

Allison smiled at her mother. She wanted to hug her but they were never really that close and right now everything she had ever done to her didn't matter.

"Saw you on Tv the other day, heard you're quite a big shot now." Patrice said, gruffly.
"Oh well."
"I guess that means you can take your poor mother off the streets then. I am your mother afterall, you wouldn't be that obnoxious not to help me out."
"What?" Allison was taken aback by her words. Her mother had still not changed.
"You heard me. Come on, I'm falling apart. I bet you live in a warm nice mansion. The types one can get lost in." Patrice chuckled, greedily. "Let's go there right away."
"Why does the title of a mother give you an automatic claim to her?" Hades asked, with a frown.
"But it does, doesn't it?"
"For a daughter you almost made a wreck out of, I don't think you do in the least."
"Allison, what insolence! This husband of yours has no manners whatsoever! I thought I brought you up better? How did you end up with a scumbag like him?"
"With all due respect, please watch your mouth around my husband, mother." Allison said.
"What?" Patrice was shocked.
"I'll give you my card, you can reach me whenever you want. I'll get you a house and fix you with a job somewhere. Maybe a boutique or a supermarket. That's all I can do for you, mother." Allison said, her throat tightened.
"Are you denying me access from your life?"
"This isn't easy for me mother but you still haven't deserted your old ways. Tell me, do you still gamble and spend late nights drinking?"
"Well that's none of your lousy business!"
"I see. So it's true then. I wouldn't want my child having an irresponsible grandmother." Allison said, bitterly
"How dare you?!"
"We have to go now mother, do well to call me." Allison said as Hades gently led her outside the building into their car. She let out a heavy sigh.

"I'm sorry, love."
"It's fine. It's just sad. I thought she would have been a better person by now."
"Some people just don't change. It's who they are. Either ways, she's lucky to have you. I on the other hand, I'm not sure how I'd react."
Allison smiled, wearily. "So...were you able to find something of unisex?" She changed the topic.
"Yes a water bottle."
"Show me!"
Hades raised the package.
"Aww it's so cute." Allison shrieked, excitedly. "I'm sure he'll love it."
"She." Hades corrected. "It's a she."
Allison laughed. "Oh Hades..."
