[Chapter Two] (09/05/24)

Percy became the talk of the camp quickly. As the three went, campers pointed and murmered about Percy.

Some just stared at Annabeth, who was the only one still soaking wet, with Sammy in tow.

Annabeth and Sammy showed Percy the metal shop, the art-and-crafts room, and the climbing wall.

Finally, they returned to the canoe lake, where the trail led back to the cabins.

"I've got training to do," Annabeth said flatly. "Dinner's at seven-thirty. Just follow your cabin to the mess hall."

"Annabeth, I'm sorry about the toilets." Percy apologized.

"Whatever." She said.

"It wasn't my fault." Percy said.

Both Annabeth and Sammy gave him skeptical looks. "You need to talk to the Oracle." Annabeth said.

"Who?" Percy questioned.

"Not who. What. The Oracle. I'll ask Chiron." Annabeth said.

"The Oracle of Delphi, she's the speaker of prophecies of Apollo." Sammy partially explained.

Percy gave him a grateful look before staring into the lake. Percy seemed to notice something, or someone in the water and waved.

Sammy looked and saw that it was the naiads, who were smiling flirtatiously and waving.

Sammy gently grabbed the boy's hand and put it down.

"Probably shouldn't to do that. Not the best idea, mate." He said with a friendly tone.

"Don't encourage them," Annabeth warned. "Naiads are terrible flirts."

"Naiads," Percy repeated. It was clear that he was overwhelmed. "That's it. I want to go home now."

Annabeth frowned. "Don't you get it, Percy? You are home. This is the only safe place on earth for kids like us."

"You mean, mentally disturbed kids?"

"Not everyone's mentally disturbed. It's just happens to be the majority, mate." Sammy said shaking his head.

"I mean not human. Not totally human, anyway. Half-human." Annabeth said.

"Half-human and half-what?" Percy asked.

"I think you know."

Percy was quiet for a few seconds. "God," he said. "Half-god."

Sammy gave a shrug and made a pinching gesture with his hand. "Close, mate."

Annabeth nodded. "Your father isn't dead, Percy. He's one of the Olympians."

"That's....crazy."

"He might not be an Olympian god." Sammy suggested. He was brushed off.

"Is it? What's the most common thing gods did in the old stories? They ran around falling in love with humans and having kids with them.

Do you think they've changed their habits in the last few millennia?"

"But those are just—" he stopped himself. "But if all the kids are half-gods—"

"Demigods," Annabeth said. "That's the official term. Or half-bloods."

"Then who's your dad?"

The question made the Athena girl grip the railing with an intensity that made her knuckles turn white.

"My dad is a professor at West Point," she said. "I haven't seen him since I was very small. He teaches American history."

"He's human." Percy said.

"What? You assume it has to be a male god who finds a human female attractive? How sexist is that?"

Sammy raised his hand. "In his defense, not many goddesses have children that are well known."

Percy gave another grateful glance to Sammy. "Who's your mom then?"

"Cabin Six."

"Meaning?"

Annabeth straightened and puffed out her chest in pride. "Athena. Goddess of wisdom and battle."

Percy looked to Sammy. "What about your mom?"

Sammy shook his head. "Not my mom, mate."

Sammy gained a playful smile. "Guess, mate. It's not an Olympian."

Percy blinked. "Uhh..."

Sammy smile faded a little. He had expected it. Not many people gave non Olympian gods any credit. Heck, they didn't even have their own cabins.

But Sammy wasn't mad at Percy. He knew the guy wasn't going to guess right. No one did. So he laughed off his bitterness.

"I'm just kiddin', mate." Sammy said with a laugh.

"I'm the Son of Aristaeus. He's the god of beekeepin', cheese-makin', olive growin' and a bunch of other things."

"There's a god of bees?" Percy asked, not really believing it.

"Hey, the roman weirdos had a god of sewers. So why not?" Sammy shrugged.

"And my dad?" Percy asked.

"Undetermined." Annabeth said. "Like I told you before. Nobody knows."

"Except my mother. She knew."

"Maybe not, Percy. Gods don't always reveal their identities."

"My dad would have. He loved her."
