Ch One {PJO x OC}

The fox was curious about humans. They were strange, they hunted his species as well as others and ate them. But they would also wear their skins and furs in order to compensate for their lack of own fur.

They made giant stone homes for themselves and even bigger ones for the giant humans of stone. The fox remembers the humans call the big statues gods.

From his watching, he learned there was many of these 'gods' but didn't make the number of humans. The gods had the humans give food and wanted the humans to kneel on the ground.

One day he heard a conversation of two humans communicating with one another. A man in the city, Orpheus was his name. Was going to the underworld to get his dead wife.

The humans were concerned on how Orpheus would get past Cerberus. Cerberus was a three headed dog that guarded the gates to the underworld and never left his post.

The fox wondered about the guard dog of The Underworld. If Cerberus never left his post, how did he hunt? The fox thought that Cerberus must be strong to stand guard for so long.

The curious fox wanted to see Cerberus. But thought that the three headed dog might not like others in his territory. the fox wondered if he was like the god he belongs too.

If the gods liked the humans giving food and kneeling to them, maybe Cerberus would like it to.

The fox had a new resolve. He would travel to the underworld and give a gift to Cerberus to satisfy his curiosity.

How would the fox travel to the Underworld? Simple, the fox would follow Orpheus to the Underworld.

While the human gets his dead wife, the fox will give his offering to Cerberus and explore the Underworld.

The fox went to find Orpheus. The humans said that the human Orpheus had a golden lyre. So, the fox sneaked into the city.

The sun had begun to set, allowing the fox to blend in the darkness only allowing its yellow eyes to be reflected by the fire that lit the city. The fox soon found the man entering a home.

The fox waits by the window, watching the man sleep. When the sun rose so did the man, he left the home and began the journey. The fox watches from a far and when the man seems to be close to his destination. The fox leaps through the forest finding anything to be an offering.

The fox soon crept through the woods. It was now late in the evening; the fox begins to hunt. The fox hunted, coursing and forth over the area.

His sense of smell and sound on high alert. The fox finds his prey, a single goose. The fox pounces on his target, the fox clamps on the goose's neck not allowing it to be free.

The goose thrashes around before going limp. This allows the fox to know his prey has died and will not be escaping his grasp. The fox with his newly claimed offering to Cerberus obtained goes back to Orpheus's trail.

The fox trailed behind Orpheus as the man played music on his lyre to the doors. When the man and animal began their decent into the Underworld, the fox began to feel weak.

The fox's eyelid began to feel heavy. The fox's legs began to tremble, his mouth began to lose his grip on his sacrifice but realizing this, the fox steeled his grip on his offering to Cerberus keeping it in his mouth.

However, the fox collapsed and died. The difference between Orpheus and the fox wasn't just their species or their goals but how they were there in the Underworld.

Orpheus had asked Apollo to help him go into underworld and retreive his wife. Apollo went to Hades and told him that Orpheus wanted to visit him to request to return of his wife, Eurydice.

The man had permission to enter the Underworld. The fox did not, the fox snuck into the underworld. The fox was a trespasser in the House of Hades. The fox's life was drained away the further he descended.

Astraeus had seen this and placed the fox in the stars. But because it was a fox with no significance, no one knew why it was there in the sky and did not care for the animal.
