It turned out Mrs. Julian wasn't a witch after all at least not in the way Arianna had been imagining. She had long black hair that stretched to her waist, it was accompanied by an artificially tan skin and dark eyes. Her face was so equally proportioned, she looked like a sculpture. She wore a light green jumpsuit and white heels. She looked like an antique doll used to compliment her beautiful house. Arianna by instinct stood up to greet her.
"No need to get up please stay seated" she ushered her "Matilda please water, or would you like something else?"
"No thank you, water is fine" it was one of those questions that didn't have an option.
"I'm sure you have millions of questions but let me explain first and hopefully it answers all of them" Arianna sat up straighter.
"As I'm sure you know," I am the heir of the multinational BM Motors company" Arianna didn't know this but nodded a yes anyways. Hurting the Ego of her employer was the first thing on her do not do list. "And I'm about to take over " Arianna wasn't sure where she this was going and thought it was rude to just keep staring.
"Congratulations" She said, had she thought before saying that? No. Mrs. Julian was surprised and then let out a little laugh, once again disappointing Arianna who expected an evil cackle.
"Perhaps it will be better to see what I mean" Arianna didn't want to leave the couch which felt like sitting on marshmallows but she did anyways. They walked past Matilda who was just arriving with two chilled glasses of water. Mrs. Julian told her to take them where they were sitting as they would return soon.
They walked down a short hallway and at the end she could sight the kitchen before they took a turn to another hallway it was a little darker than the others. She guessed it led to private bedrooms. She was right. Mrs. Julian stopped in front of a black door which stood in sharp contrast with everything else in the house pushing the door open it turned out it got weirder.
The room was dark, the walls were painted the darkest shade of blue which intensified the darkness Arianna noticed the window blinds were pulled shut it would be impossible to see in from outside. she remembered the window from her earlier scan and updated her escape map.
Mrs. Julian turned on the light and soft light flooded the room. It was a plain room apart from the few paintings, which only rich people thought were pretty, that hung on the walls. On the far corner was a large bed laid straight and in the center was a small parlor. Arianna wasn't sure how being here answered any of her questions but it certainly added to them.
"Seems he has fallen asleep" Mrs. Julian walked on her toes to the chairs in the parlor Arianna following behind. On the chair was a young man he was deep asleep and breathing softly." This is my son Travis he is I don't know how to put it he is well...disturbed. But he hasn't always been like that he was a sweet boy until he turned twenty-five and since he always seemed angry and he would keep yelling and destroying things.
"That's horrible, why didn't you take him to a professional?" Arianna had forgotten she was meant to convince her to employ her.
"I did when I was a director but now that I'm taking over the business, I can't let his situation be public for my sake as well as his. It was hard enough to convince my father to pass the company to me as a woman. If he finds out I can't even handle my son he won't let me handle the company and Travis will never be allowed to take over. So I need someone who doesn't have much influence and at least a little bit competent to help him. Do you understand?"
Wow that didn't hurt at all
"That is a lot to take in but I get where you are coming from" Arianna hadn't been in such a situation or even half of it but she had watched a lot of soap opera to understand. "But why me?"
"I would love to make you feel special but I've interviewed many before you and many are after you if you don't pass the test" Arianna gulped.
"There is a test?" Arianna was hoping the universe already had it sorted.
"Of course, no matter the situation I can't just leave my only son and heir to just anybody" good point. They left the room after Mrs. Julian found a blanket and laid it over Travis.
"So what do I have to do?"
"OH nothing today, not while Travis is asleep" Thinking of how much she spent getting here Arianna thought of shaking him awake. But then realized she was so full of doubt yesterday to prepare she wasn't going to let impatience cost her this Job.
"Just fill this form and Jasper will drop you off" the joy she felt was like she had already gotten the job. The couch welcomed her back as she took the form and began to fill. Her address, age, qualifications, nothing outside the ordinary.
"Do you stay with your family?" Mrs. Julianna asked. Arianna was wondering how that was important but she was willing to tell her anything if it will add points to her getting the job.
"My parents passed away in an accident when I graduated college so I stay with my grandmother who lives next door" Mrs. Julianna nodded at this information and sipped on her water while Arianna completed the form.
"I'm done" she handed the form back to her which, she scanned quickly probably just to make sure everything was filled in. She pressed the button on the arm of her chair and spoke into it.
"Jasper bring the car around" There was a beep and Mrs. Julianna walked Arianna to the door "Sorry you came all the way here and you couldn't take the test"
"It's no problem at all gives me more time to prepare for it" she only responded with a small smile, and since she didn't have any wrinkles under her eyes Arianna guessed that was the best smile she could get. She got into the back seat of the waiting car after bidding good bye to Mrs. Julianna and Matilda.
"I hope I have finally found the one, time isn't on my side" Mrs. Julianna said as the car drove away from the compound.
"She seems like a sweet girl I'm sure she will pass the test" Matilda responded "she doesn't have time to prepare though after all, the test has already begun"
Arianna stretched at the back of the Mercedes which was the same as the one which scouted her. The driver kept his eyes on the road and didn't say a word and Arianna didn't mind she needed to gather her thoughts. It wasn't a bad prank after all, and Mrs. Julian wasn't a witch or she was more of a good witch Arianna thought to herself. Little did she know the events that followed would contradict that statement in a million ways.
