Mrs. Juliana had told Arianna to wait a week for her to prepare a position for her, so Arianna spent most of her time knitting in her grandmother's room. She was about to knit in the sleeves into her sweater while listening to a song from SpongeBob when she heard a knock on the door.
Her grandmother was out with her friends so Arianna couldn't think of anyone that would come to look for her. The dream of the men in black flashed her mind. But if they were here for her why come to her grandmother's room not hers? Were they planning to erase her grandmother first? Well that would make sense, without her grandmother nobody would care about her sudden disappearance.
Arianna searched the room for something sharp she could use to protect herself. But since her grandmother was old and clumsy all the sharp objects had been put away. She dashed to the kitchen and took a table knife and convinced herself it would do damage with the right force. A soft knock came again and Arianna crept to the door her table knife in front of her.
"Arianna I know you are in there I'm getting tired standing out here" it was Mrs. Juliana's voice but Arianna wasn't relieved. Mrs. Juliana seemed like the type to want to do her dirty work herself. Hands on the door knob and a grip of the knife, Arianna pulled the door open.
Mrs. Juliana stood outside with an elderly man behind her. He looked as old as Matilda but had eyes full of life.
"Not expecting guests were you?" Mrs. Juliana smiled her eyes drifting to the knife. She quickly hid it behind her back.
"Don't blame me, I live in the dangerous part of town" Mrs. Julian let herself in followed by her companion and they both sat at the table. Arianna stood leaning on the wall her eyes on the window in case she needed to make an emergency exit even though she was on the second floor. "How did you know I was here?"
"I do appreciate you thinking great of my abilities, but I went to your room and knocked and since no response came I decided to try here, plus I doubt your grandmother has such pleasant taste in music" Arianna quickly turned off her music that was playing in the background. "I'm going to cut to the chase, I need your help Arianna"
The wheels in Arianna's brain were rolling with possibilities but she couldn't figure out why exactly Mrs. Juliana the genius will need her help. She did think it was weird. When she asked Mrs. Juliana for a job she didn't specify where. It would have benefitted her to take Arianna far away to keep her secret safe but Mrs. Juliana had suggested a spot in the company. Arianna's eyes drifted to Mrs. Juliana then her companion and back to her knife which she still held behind her back.
"Oh I forgot to introduce to you to Kevin, my driver and good friend" she gestured to the old man who came with her. He gave Arianna a wide smile which she returned with a nod.
"So what do you need?"
"Can you first put the knife away it is making me uncomfortable" when Arianna reluctantly did, she continued "I'm glad I don't have to narrate from the beginning since you already figured it out. But like I said earlier I'm not the bad guy and I think this goes beyond me. I think someone else is also trying to stop Travis from taking over the company"
Arianna didn't pretend to be surprised. Over the few days she was so bored that thinking was the only thing that kept her sane, she had thought up so many theories even without any form of proof.
"And why do you think so?" Arianna already knew the answer to all these questions but thought it natural to ask
"Travis had not always had such bad temper it only started when he turned twenty five and was meant to begin his training in the company"
"It could be the pressure"
"Travis isn't that kind of person he had been under this pressure from when he was born. So it isn't natural for him to act up now. And the fact that he just stopped seemed miraculous. No matter how good you are at your job it was too fast"
"Do you have any proof?"
"That's why I need your help"
"You can literally employ the best investigators so why me?"
Mrs. Juliana took a deep breath.
"It certainly isn't the same reason I employed you as a therapist, because now I know who you really are Mrs. Arianna Carlos. Or should I say Arianna Deville"
A sly smirk appeared on Arianna's face
"You are slow Mrs. Juliana, it took you this long to figure it out. And why should I help you?"
"Because I can give you the two things you desire most: safety and fun. Both in writing ofcourse"
"Interesting. So, tell me your suspects"
