Travis couldn't sleep a wink. Arianna apparently had that effect on him. It was hard enough convincing himself against the idea that Jasper was taking his place but for her to openly say it like it didn't mean anything made him loose it. He was angry. Angry at himself, angry at Arianna for not focusing on her job, angry that he couldn't do anything.
He thought he was getting better, thought that her methods were actually working but in reality, he felt worse. He kept thinking of times when he would lose his temper and Jasper had to clean up his mess. When his mom thought it would be better if Jasper accompanied her to the office for the time being.
A thought came across his mind. A thought that made his heart beat faster. Wouldn't a normal person get angry over something like that? Maybe there wasn't anything wrong with him after all. But as quietly as that thought came it was immediately countered with the obvious. No normal person would shatter a glass just because someone was bad mouthing his best friend would they?
That night Travis made a vow, a long term commitment, he was going to get better. He was not going to be passive and hope for a miracle, he was going to do it himself. He was going to prove to himself and to Arianna that Jasper was still who he thought he was and that he was fine at least he was going to be.
Throwing off the covers he left his room and headed down the hallway. It was a little past midnight and all the lights were off. But Travis had walked this hall way all his life he could locate anywhere blindfolded.
Light slipped through Jasper's door. He was still awake. Pushing open the door, he peaked in. Jasper was sitting upright in bed with a book except he had fallen asleep reading with the lights on. He slipped in and stood beside his bed. Jasper being a conscious sleeper opened his eyes minutes later
"Are you a ghost" his voice was calm not like someone who had actually seen a ghost so Travis didn't bother answering that besides he wasn't even dead yet.
"Clear your schedule we are going out" Travis said firmly making him understand that it was up for debate
"Right now?" again his expression didn't look like he was just asked to go out in the middle of the night.
"No dummy in the morning"
A small smile turned up at the side of his face "Yes boss".
When Travis arrived at his room, he took out Arianna's file and dialed her phone number she picked at the third ring. She must have been sleeping Travis thought. He was upset that she could sleep peacefully after all that happened.
"Yeah?"
"I just wanted to make sure you are still up for tomorrow" he heard her sit up
"oh? Were you so excited you couldn't sleep?" even on the phone Travis could tell she had a triumphant smirk on her face.
"Don't make me change my mind. And also whatever reservation you are making make it for three Jasper is coming and not as a driver"
"You don't have to be nervous spending time with a beautiful girl like me to bring a wingman" Travis rolled his eyes at this "and besides we don't need reservations where we are going"
Travis already felt like he made a bad decision.

Arianna spent extra time on her make up while convincing herself that it wasn't because Jasper was coming. After she called Travis to make sure his mother was okay with it since she wasn't allowed to interact with them in public. Mrs. Julian asked my plans and said she would book the whole park just for our outing although that will dent their fun, Arianna agreed as there wasn't any other way.
When she was done she slipped on a yellow flower dress, her favorite white flats and a white bag. When she passed her grandmother's room, the door was wide open
"Why are you dressed so pretty aren't you going to work?" her grandmother asked from her arm chair
"Yes Abuela and it doesn't mean I have to dress like a hobo because I'm employed, bye" Arianna didn't wait for her response which would have probably been her throwing her sandal at her.
The Mercedes was downstairs when she came out. She jumped into the back seat where Travis was seated looking nervous which was expected since he hadn't left his house in a while.
"Good morning I hope you are all ready to have a nice time" Arianna cheered when Jasper started the car
"I know I am" unlike Travis, Jasper seemed to be looking forward to this. If what Travis said was true then he definitely needed a break from Mrs. Juliana.
"That's the spirit!" Arianna said tapping Jasper on the shoulder, just that swift movement towards him Arianna was engulfed in his cologne which sent she stomach fluttering.
"Is this really a good idea? What if something happens and people find out about me?" for someone who was a co-anchor of this outing he sure lost motivation pretty easily.
"Relax Travis, you have always been a worry cat it will be fine" Jasper encouraged. This was the most Arianna had heard him say in a day then the words of Travis played back in her head "unfriendly? He probably just doesn't like you" Arianna shook the thought away she had to focus on today and making sure Travis had a great time.
"Jasper is right and there isn't point in all this therapy if you don't leave the house to test your progress"
Travis's shoulders relaxed as he breathed out "You are right it will be fine I will be fine"
"Or if you like I can hold your hand the entire time" Jasper joked. Arianna didn't know he had it in him she took mental notes.
"Shut up Jasper" Travis threatened glaring at Jasper through the mirror.
"Oh Rejected" Arianna whispered make then burst in laughter.
The remaining mile to the park was spent with them laughing at lame things and Arianna telling them about her worst clients. For that moment they forgot everything just three strangers having fun and laughing over the littlest things. But In life one should be careful when at the peak of happiness because it makes it easier to fall deep into the pit of despair.
