As the sun began to rise over the horizon, painting the surface with its golden rays, morning arrived on the Outpost.

For most, it would be a sight for the ages to see the massive star paint the canvas called Earth, but for two individuals at the Outpost, it was a major inconvenience.

Elegg and the Commander winced as a glare peaked through the refurbished windows of his room.

"I told you to close the blinds." Elegg complained, lightly nudging the Commander's arm with a leer.

Unfazed, he continued to mow down their enemies relentlessly. His precision of the right stick and excellent patience with the right trigger made him a formidable opponent for digital warfare.

Elegg herself was impressed by how swiftly he learned the game, since he was starting from square one.

"What's a video game?" He asked her after catching her installing Boom on his computer last night.

From that question forward the two began a co-op campaign experience on the hardest difficulty to test his metal as the fabled Commander, and he hadn't let her down.

Who he did let down was Rapi.

She stood behind the two in her pajamas, wearily staring at the screen in disappointment.

"We hired you to work here... not whatever this is." Rapi muttered.

"Masters are at work, excuse you! If we keep this up, we may rank top 3 for Harcore Campaign speedruns! I'm so glad I set this to record!" Elegg leaned forward at the mention of breaking a record for Boom.

"Besides, we're still on PTO. Not like we have to get ahead of the game just yet." The Commander said with a brief nod.

Rapi couldn't refute that, since they still had 5 days left. With Elegg being hired, since Syuen had cut funding to her branch of the company, she had set up far more efficient energy management across the Outpost.

Her value was already higher than he had imagined, but that was before he had fallen under her wing and began to learn about video games.

Taking a seat beside the Commander, Rapi peered at the tv in confusion.

"Is this game... based off of Raptures?"

Elegg shrugged, leaning back into the sofa seeing that the Commander was beginning to carry her. "That's what they say. Except it's more like defending the Ark than reclaiming the surface. Raises the stakes thematically, you know?"

"I understand to an extent. It's quite the morbid theme regardless." Rapi replied.

Elegg nodded. "Yeah, it's for those who want to experience what it's like to be a hero. Probably for the nerds who chose not to actually enlist."

"Everyone at the Ark, regardless of their status, plays a significant role. The average citizen keeps the economy going, which keeps our funding and support going. They may not understand that, and aspire to be more, but from my standpoint, they help more than they know."
