Inevitable

Fate is in his hands.

The Commander pushed through the strain and exhaustion, racing after Rapi, Anis, and Neon after Sugar's motorcycle ran out of fuel 300m from Modernia.

The Commander had to see this through. He needed to make progress. Prove himself. Show his worth.

But above all else... he longed for something else.

The Commander's face grew blank as he locked in to the reality around him, the hatred for Chatterbox subsiding with the longing for his first friend.

Just over the hill they ran up, the four caught sight of Modernia outmaneuvering Emma's spray from her mini-gun, with Eunhwa unable to get a clear shot as well.

The four slid down the hill, with the Commander growing more passionate seeing—

"MARIAN!" The Commander yelled, directing all attention to him as he nearly tumbled down the hill ahead of Counters.

"Absolute, falling back." Eunhwa announced. "You all have to win this one, Commander." Emma commented alongside Vesti, "I have faith in you."

"Good luck," Eunhwa added, watching the four dash past with aggression and conviction in their steps. "You bunch of rust buckets..." she added quietly with a smile.

"Y-You... Swapping out for new players?" Modernia asked with clear nervousness, but she began to control herself. "You took longer than I expected, the stress has gotten to me."

"Allow me," She glared through the black visor she wore with hatred. "To take it out on you!" She shouted with venom.

The Commander and Counters had no intention of stopping. Their sprint was full force as they rushed Modernia.

On the defense, Modernia began gliding back and firing her machine gun as Rapi fired back. With precision, Rapi hit each bullet fired with her own, giving a path for Neon and the Commander to lunge forward and fire at Modernia.

Neon fired two rounds at her, but only grazed her due to the jittering of her movement being swift enough to dodge.

Unlike Neon, the Commander's lighter body was able to speed up in desperation as he drew his pistol. He fired at her torso but she jumped above the bullet, only to get sent flying towards Neon from an explosion landed by Anis.

Neon slid under and landed two rounds to her chest, sending her tumbling towards the Commander and Rapi.

Rapi rushed ahead of him and slammed her fist into Modernia's gut, making her body nearly cave from the impact.

However, Modernia giggled as two tentacles erupted from her back, flying towards Rapi's hips.

The Commander lunged forward and grabbed the tentacles in time for Rapi to kick Modernia away and send her and the Commander tumbling away.

The Commander dodged a lunge of the tentacles, blocked a swat from Modernia, but the second tentacle slashed his side. A crippling weakness of the Nano-barrier was blades, and the tentacles were sharp as could be.

Modernia rolled to have her back to the ground before slamming her feet into the Commander's stomach and kicking him away.

At the last second the Commander grabbed the tentacle that slashed him, swinging around as Neon closed in with a point blank shot to Modernia's hip, and Anis rolled around to her back and shot a rocket to land a direct hit.

The Commander landed roughly on his knees and held the tentacle tight, trying to absorb the energy it held, but his body jittered with red electricity in response.
