Chapter 16

When the morning arrived and the sun was up, George was up and ready for work and Kira brought the twins to the door to say goodbye to their father. "Look after them." "I will. I've got help here if I need anything." "Ok then. I'll see you in a few hours." They kissed and he kissed the pups on their foreheads before getting into the car and driving to his parents to get Steve.

When he was at his parents' house, George walked into the house and got Steve as he said that he would visit for a few minutes when he drove Steve back there.

By the time they arrived at work, Howard was about to walk inside when he suddenly turned around to see the twins. "You're here early." "We had a smooth ride through." "Good. You don't mind doing a couple of favours for me before we open do you?" "Of course not," Steve replied. "Good. I just need a little help in the office." They all walked into the store and into the office when Howard told them to sit down in front of his desk.

"I want to thank you before I begin to tell you your jobs." The twins nodded and listened to their boss. "Now, I'd like you to help out in the back of the store today. We're two staff members down due to illness today, so I'd like you to go there and get the stock from the lorries and bring them to the back and later put them out in the front of the store after a stock check." They agreed and Howard let them get on with the job straight away.

When they finished the job, they returned to Howard and told him that the items were counted and filed as well as put in front of the store. "Thank you for the help. See if anything needs to be done at the main desk at the front of the store and if not, just make sure the place is tidy before customers start arriving." They did as he asked and managed to make sure everything was in place before customers arrived.

Meanwhile, Claire was with the pups while Mike remained in bed sleeping. "Daddy is still sleeping, so we need to be quiet." They all nodded as they all went upstairs and checked on Mike.

Claire walked towards him and saw his sleeping form where she then saw him tense in his sleep. She sat on the bed and gently brushed her knuckles against his right cheek. "Mike?" she gently asked. He stirred and began to open his eyes. "Hey. What time is it?" "Almost nine in the morning." He sat up and saw the pups next to his mate. "Hi kids." "Hi daddy." "I'm fine, I promise." They gave him a hug and he hugged them back.

"Why don't you let me get up and I'll get us some breakfast?" They all got off of the bed and they all get dressed into day clothes and went to the kitchen when they saw Claire pouring hot water from the kettle into the cups.

"One cup of tea for my handsome mate." "Thanks Claire." They kissed and the pups looked away. "Come on kids. We're mated. You'll all be doing this when you're older." "Ewww," Daisy proclaimed. "It's true Daisy. You and your brothers will find your mates and extend the family."

The pups then ate their breakfast and they suddenly saw Jonathan enter the room. "Uncle Jonathan!" "Hi kids." He looked to his little brother and asked how he was. "I'm fine. Claire's dong really well helping me with the pups." "That's great news. Anyway, I thought I'd let you know that I'm working as a scientist at the hospital." "Fantastic bro." "Well, you know I like working with chemicals and they're all around my room. I thought about it and now it's my job."

Mike and Claire were proud of him. "When do you start?" Claire asked. "Next week. It gives me time to prepare and I can practice some experiments." "Do mum and dad know?" "Yes. They're happy." "Good. If you need help with anything, I'm more than happy to help."

Just then, the front door burst open and startled everyone. Mike grabbed the pups and moved them so they were behind him. "Kids, don't move and don't say anything." A male figure entered the room with a knife in his hand. Jonathan recognised it instantly. "Be careful. That knife is silver." The pups shook with fear and Mike didn't back down. Jonathan stepped forward and said, "It's me you want. Don't hurt the pups." "It's not them I want." He then turned to Jonathan. "It's you."
