Age-26
"Oh God, I slept here? And for two whole hours?"
I groaned as a dull pain shot through my back while getting up from the swing. My body ached, and my head felt heavy. I had no idea when I dozed off—last I remember, I was drowning in thoughts about that damned trip.
I wiped my face with my hands and glanced at the clock. 9:00 p.m.
Two hours. Two whole hours of unconsciousness after I burned that cursed piece of paper. After I cried my heart out because, let’s face it—this pain is unbearable.
Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine I’d be arranging the wedding of the man I love. P.S. – with someone else.
The ache in my chest tightened, but I forced myself to move. I dragged my feet toward the kitchen, grabbed a glass of water, and took a deep breath to calm myself. The coolness of the water barely did anything to the fire burning inside me.
Just then, a knock at the door snapped me out of my daze.
Please, God, not another pain in my ass.
Sighing, I made my way to the door, hesitantly turning the knob. As I slowly opened it, my heart exhaled a breath it didn’t know it was holding.
Hush… it’s my sukoon.
Aaravi.
As the night settled in, Aaravi and I managed to put together a simple meal—stir-fried veggies. Well, to be fair, I cooked while she just stood there, staring at the pan like it was about to reveal the meaning of life.
We decided to take our plates to the balcony, letting the cool breeze mix with the warmth of our dinner. The silence between us was comfortable, yet heavy, like we both knew there were things left unsaid. And, of course, Aaravi was the first one to break it.
"Don’t act like you’re okay, Ahana. I know you’re not."
I smiled, letting out a small chuckle before replying, "God, Aaravi, it’s not that big of a deal. I mean, yeah, the person I love is madly in love with someone else and is now getting married to that person. And the most ironic part? We’re the ones planning his wedding. A little messy, right?" I let out a dry laugh. "But what Ishaan and I had is in the past. Besides, someone once told me that I ‘deserve all this.’ So maybe it’s my fate. I’ll just accept it and move on."
