Age -18
"Careful, Ahana, it's too dark," Ishaan's voice brought me back to the present, his grip tightening on my hand.
In that moment, I couldn't help but wonder-could we pause time right here? It was a strange but undeniable truth: sometimes a stranger, someone you've only just met, can make you feel more at home than the people who should be your family.
As we moved through the woods, I looked up, and there, in the distance, the stars seemed to have fallen into the ocean. They glittered like diamonds, so distant and unreal, almost as if the universe itself was sharing its secret with me.
Suddenly, I pulled my hand away from Ishaan's, feeling an urge I couldn't ignore. Without thinking, I ran toward the water, drawn by its calm, briny embrace. The coolness of the ocean greeted me, and I stood for a moment, letting the rhythm of the waves wash over me.
The soft, constant swing of the water played a soothing melody in my ears, and without hesitation, I lay down on the shoreline, my body sinking slightly into the cool sand. The night felt endless here, as if time itself had stopped just for me.
"Can I stay here for life?" I sighed, letting the words hang in the air, carried by the gentle breeze.
"You can enjoy the beaches anytime; you live in Mumbai," Ishaan replied, his voice soft yet practical.
"I know, but it's this feeling-away from the chaos, where I can just be myself, not pretending, just relaxing. I can't find this peace anywhere else," I murmured, my voice trailing off as I sank deeper into the moment.
"So, may I assume that the person we've lived with these five days isn't the real you?" Ishaan asked, his tone playful but with a hint of curiosity.
"Uhm, yes, you can," I hummed, a small smile playing on my lips, even as I felt his gaze on me, intense and searching.
"I know you'll never judge me. That's why I chose you to come here with me," I admitted, looking away, feeling vulnerable in that admission.
"And why do you trust me so much?" Ishaan asked, his voice steady but laced with a trace of wonder.
"I trust my heart," I said, turning to look straight into his eyes. "Aur mera dil kabhi galat nahi kehta," I added, my voice sure and unwavering, as if the words carried a deeper truth only I could understand.
I have thalassophobia, yet I wouldn't mind drowning in his brown eyes-lighter than the bark of a tree, but darker than the sand.
We lay there for a while, the only sound being the soothing rhythm of the waves. The world felt distant, as if the ocean itself had wrapped us in its peaceful embrace, leaving only silence and the steady pulse of the water around us. In that quiet moment, I felt more at ease than I had in a long time.
