"Where the hell have you been?" Jared demanded wanting to throttle him for what he had done. He knew Evan was responsible for everything. The alcohol, getting Mila drunk, inviting unsavory people. It was shit he used to do back in the dorms of their last high school.
Evan's head was splitting, and he put his hand to it. He tried to drink his mom's hangover concoction, but it was proving to work slowly on him at the moment since he barely woke up twenty minutes ago trying his hardest to get here.
"You don't have to shout man. I just woke up and came here as soon as I could." His voice sounded like shit.
He walks further in just to see the place completely clean as it was before the party ever started. "See everything is already taken care of."
"Yeah, no thanks to you." Jared snapped, looking highly irritated.
Mila walked in the room in that moment looking around. "Well, I think that's about it guys, thanks."
She then looks up to see Evan standing there. A deep blush washed over her face remembering the kiss they shared before her memories went wonky. While she felt the shyness deep inside she couldn't help feeling the disappointment and annoyance looking at him. She wasn't sure why she was feeling that way when it came to Evan.
Evan felt guilty and wouldn't look her in the eyes. Around four in the morning he woke up next to Kristan, both sleeping in Mila's parents' bedroom. They had both been completely naked and he knew what he had done. When the realization hit he freaked out and couldn't believe he had sunk so low doing what he did. He quickly washed himself, got dressed and practically ran out not once looking in Kristan's direction.
One thing he knew for sure though was she wasn't a virgin. And he couldn't remember if he had used protection or not. He was too flustered and in panic mode to find out. What made everything even worse was the fact that he remembered bits and pieces of it and wished he hadn't. All he knew was that Mila was that one he wanted. So, before it was too late he had to ask her.
Ian watched him closely with a frown suspicion rising within him, but he doesn't voice his concern or questions of why Evan was looking that way. No one else seemed to sense his uncomfortable vibe or shifty avoidance.
"Mila, can I talk to you alone for a minute?" Evan asks.
That immediately got everyone's attention. With a slight frown she looks to everyone before looking back at him. "Um, sure. Let's go in the den."
As soon as she closed the double glass doors Selena quickly went off to the side of the wall crouching down and leaned her ear against the frame.
"What are you doing?" Jared asked her even though he wanted to do the same thing.
"Shh!" She waved at him, then in the corner she popped out a little section of the wall that had been hidden by the little table that held a potted plant.
"How did you know about that?" Ian whispered in awe.
"Me and Mila cut it out when we were fourteen, trying to listen to her parents conversations whenever we got in trouble." She whispered back trying to listen to what was being said inside the room.
Then they faintly hear Mila's voice.
"So, what is it you needed to talk to me about?"
On the other side she knew that more than likely her best friend was listening to this conversation as they did all the time with her parents. But it wasn't just Selena that would be listening she was quite sure. Jared and Ian were most likely listening as well. Which made it even more nerve wracking to find out what Evan needed to say.
She hoped he didn't mention their kiss. It was the last thing she wanted was for Jared to find out. She was sure that she would never hear the end of it with him even though she was older, and he had no say or right to tell her what she could and couldn't do with another person. But that didn't mean she wanted to hear him be a dick about it.
Dreading the words that were about to spill out of Evan's mouth she unconsciously starts rubbing the necklace she wore between her two fingers.
"Well, I wanted to actually ask you something serious."
Jared couldn't help moving his sister over a bit so he could hear better causing her to give him a glare that he didn't bother looking at and focused on what was being said instead. She watched his features dreading what was about to be said between their two best friends, afraid whatever words Evan was about to say was going to crush her brother.
Mila waited silently as he looked a bit embarrassed, his face turning a bit pink. She never seen him get so flustered before and it made her even more curious on what he wanted to talk about.
"Mila...will you be my girlfriend?" He quickly rushed out, shocking them all.
He held his breath hoping she would say yes and not leave him hanging, embarrassing him further. On the other side Jared goes completely stiff and waited for her reply, even though he knew what it would be, he needed to hear her say the words out loud. To confirm it once and for all and put him out of his misery or sink him even further down than he already is.
It was like they all waited with bated breath when she took a few moments for her to answer. And when she did they were all surprised.
"Evan, I know you would want a straight answer but to be honest, I need to think about it." She seemed calm as she tells him this, but inside she was roaring with emotions that needed further looking into.
"Oh." He looked and sounded unsure of what to do next.
"That's not a no, but it isn't a yes either. I just need to see if it's for real." She looked down at her hands making him smile gently at her.
"Would it help if we dated more?"
Smiling with relief she was glad he was taking her answer a lot better than she was afraid of. It wasn't quite a rejection in the same sense most people would have taken it. He looked a bit disappointed, but he wasn't showing that he was going to allow it to defer him.
"I think it would." she said softly.
Swinging his arms back and forth taking a huge sigh of relief he looked around not sure what they should do now. "How about tonight? We can go to the movies?"
Clasping her hands in front of her she nods in agreement. "That sounds great. Oh, that's if I'm not grounded when my parents get home."
"I don't think they'll even notice anything really happened here. You got the place pretty damn spotless it seems."
Jared stands back up and proceeds to walk out the door. Both Selena and Ian quickly stand and stare after him in panic. "Jared, are you okay? Where are you going?"
He stopped right outside, turning back to face them. His face expressionless. Looking in the direction of the double doors he states in all seriousness, "Well, it seems I'm going to the movie's tonight."
With identical confused looks on their faces he doesn't stay a moment longer as he leaves her house.
