For what seemed like the hundredth time, Jared cursed himself to be an idiot. What was he doing here? Why was he even doing this to himself in the first place? Why can't he just leave them alone knowing it was going to turn out like this and had basically accepted it? Apparently he hadn't, not fully.
He was standing inside in the theater lobby looking at the menu of the refreshment bar. He was pretending to contemplate on what to buy when in actuality he was waiting on Evan and Mila to show up. He had purposely avoided Evan all day just so he wouldn't tell him about the date because if he did he wouldn't have an excuse of being shocked that they were here at the same time watching the same movie.
He annoyed his sister on telling him what theater they were going too, and what movie was decided just for this purpose. At first Selena was being stubborn and refusing, repeatedly telling him what he was doing was wrong and completely unfair to Mila. But he couldn't let it go and eventually broke her down enough to grudgingly reveal the movie.
A scary movie at that. He grimaced at the choice of movie. Him and Evan had already seen it, twice because Evan loved it so much. He had to sit through it a third time now and he knew he was going to be bored out of his mind throughout the two hours.
But he wasn't here alone. It would only be suspicious if he came to the movies alone. One, what teenager even does that and two, Evan would wonder why he just didn't ask him to tag along even if he had a date with Mila.
So he was on a date too.
Although it was for pretend but they didn't need to know that. Chelsea, Selena's other friend that came around every so often, had done him a favor by agreeing to this farce. Of course, and he hated doing it, he told her the truth of why he needed her help. Against his inner turmoil of keeping his feelings for Mila a secret, Chelsea wouldn't agree otherwise. But the best part about Chelsea was the fact that she can keep secrets.
Jared pretty much had given up on pretending with his sister about his feelings for her best friend. She gave the hugest grin known to man when he finally confessed to it to her.
"I knew it!" She nearly shouted making him wince. "At first, it was odd but as time passed it had me thinking. But lately you have become downright obvious, it wasn't hard to figure it out."
He frowned at her statement. He didn't like that he was so readable. He'll have to do something about that.
"The movie starts at three fifteen."
"That's matinee time so I'll have to go early before them to get the tickets."
"Already done. I ordered them online for you." She smiled brightly and hands him the printout.
He rolled his eyes but was thankful she thought ahead. "Please lord be rid of annoying little sisters." He mumbles.
She picked up an eraser from her desk and threw it at his head. "Well this annoying little sister had gotten you information, a date, and quick tickets for something that you shouldn't even be doing, which is spying on your best friend who's going on a date with a girl you're secretly in love with."
He immediately grew hot in the face when she says it out loud, something he hasn't even quite done himself yet. His instinct was to deny it, but he held himself back knowing it was too late for that now. Not after everything he has told her and the way he has been behaving.
Clearing his throat, "Well anyways, it's already one thirty. I better get ready and go pick up Chelsea." He had left with her soft laughter behind him.
Now here they both stood waiting for the moment to arrive. The closer it got the more nervous and idiot like he was feeling. Looking down at his watch he sighs heavily. They have been here for an hour already and still no signs of his best friend and Mila. Chelsea got tired of standing and waiting so headed over to the little arcade the theater had to the side, waiting for him to collect her when they showed up.
With each minute passing his heart kept leaping a bit faster than normal. Again he asked himself why he was doing this.
"Excuse me."
He looks up from his watch for the millionth time to the counter that was ten feet away from him. The young concession stand girl was looking at him with a frown on her face.
"I'm sorry, but are you going to order? You've been standing there for like thirty minutes now."
"Oh, um yeah, I guess." He walks up to the counter and orders popcorn, two sodas and some candy. He was just reaching into his pocket to pay when someone calls out his name.
"Jared?"
Turning he finds both Evan and Mila standing just behind him holding hands. He clenched his jaw while acting surprised to see them here.
"Oh, hey you guys. What are you two doing here?" Okay that was a stupid question because it was obvious to even a stranger to see they were here on a date to watch a movie.
The two looked to each other with identical frowns on their faces. "We're here on a date." Evan smugly states raising their linked hands together to empathize it further.
The anger inside was quickly overshadowing the nervousness he had before.
"What are you doing here?" Mila asks suspiciously.
He just didn't seem to quit she thought. He must have found out that she was going on a date with Evan from Selena and being the overprotective brother that he isn't decided to spy on them. He seemed he didn't even trust his own best friend. She was about to give him a piece of her mind when he just stood there as if trying to come up with some lame excuse when Chelsea suddenly walked up next to him, wrapped her arm around his and beamed with a smile.
"Oh hey you guys! Are you on a date too?" she asks excitedly.
Mila stammered. "O-On a date too?"
"What? No way, you two are on a date? When did that happen?" Evan was smiling with a surprised look on his face.
Jared looked embarrassed because now that it was happening he kind of felt foolish. "Um, yeah."
"I know huh. It turns out that we both liked each other all this time. He finally had the courage to ask me out." Chelsea squeezes his arm closer to her, looking up at him with adoration.
"Oh. I never even knew that either one of you had any hints of feelings for each other." Mila states stiffly, her good vibe all but wiped gone now.
Jared shrugged indifferently. "Well, it seems we both kept it hidden very well." He couldn't help looking down at her chest where the necklace he had given her was still there. He quickly looked away feeling a bit pleased but didn't show it.
"It was great seeing you guys, but we need to catch our movie. Bye." Chelsea reaches over and takes one of the sodas from Jared's hands as she waves with the other pulling him to follow her.
He quickly turns back to the counter and mumbles. "Nearly forgot this." He pays the vendor and took their snacks that sat waiting for him and without a backwards glance at either of them walks away.
Mila's smile was gone. She had been in such a great mood too but now all she wanted to do was go home.
"Come on, we should get going too." Evan pulls her after him, his hand feeling like a heavy weight inside of hers.
She couldn't help wondering what movie Jared and Chelsea was here to watch. At least she wouldn't have to sit in the same theater to watch them be all cozy and lovey dovey with one another. Since when have the two of them even had time to obtain feelings anyways? As far as she knew Chelsea didn't come over to their house very often and when she did Jared was never around.
She sighed when she saw the sign 'Insidious 2'. She wasn't interested in this movie for the second time. She saw it with her parents when it first came out. She thought it was okay, not a bad movie but not something she cared to watch again. If she was going to pay to watch a movie it wouldn't be one she had already seen. But she wasn't the one who paid so she just kept her mouth shut.
Hopefully they wouldn't be in the same theater, and she could just concentrate on rewatching something she didn't care to even watch again. And she was definitely not going to be thinking about what the other two were doing as they watched theirs.
Definitely not.
