Mila reaches the entrance doors when he caught up to her. He grabs her arm and pulls her back. She immediately went into attack mode and starts to fight him off. "Mila! What the hell?!" He grits out, trying to pin her to him.
"Let me go! Leave me ae alone Jared!" She yells back.
"Not until you calm down damn it!?"
She finally pushes him away. "I won't calm down! God Jared, what have we done?! what we did...it was wrong and Stacy...." She walks away feeling horrible and ashamed.
He watches her for a few moments before going after her again. "Look at me Mila, we didn't do anything wrong."
"What?! You're engaged Jared!" She hisses with disbelief, looking around to make sure they hadn't been followed.
"Okay point taken, but we've been friends since our teens, and we just got caught up in the moment-"
"You were drunk Jared, and I...ugh I'm so disgusted with myself it's unbelievable!" She spots her parents car and takes out the spare keys she always had with her.
She had to leave, and she had to leave now.
"So what, you're just going to run away again like before? Is that what your life is going to be to like, always running away from your problems?" He was getting angry now.
She ignores him as she puts the key in the driver side to unlock it. He knew what she was going to do and rushes to stop her. "No! you're not going to run away again Mila!"
He went to grab her again and she starts slapping him. "Don't touch me!" She pushes him hard and yells out, "Don't ever touch me again Jared!"
She stares at him breathing hard. He stands there frozen. "You know what fine, I won't touch you again, you can count on that. Go and run like the scared little girl you're always going to be. What do I care anymore."
He slowly backs away from her, shakes his head with a look of sadness. The walks away, not towards the hospital, but somewhere further into the parking lot. She gets into the car and drives off; tears were sliding down so fast, and she was sobbing so hard that at one point she had to pull over before she got herself into an accident. Not one time did he say how he felt about what happened or how he felt about her, just that they had a moment.
What was wrong with her? She decided now she was going to leaving tonight. She couldn't face any of them again. Evan, Stacy...Jared. She didn't trust herself that something might slip up and then she'd ruin everything for everyone. Evan feeling devastated, Stacy hating her, and Jared left with regret and heartbroken.
She wouldn't be able to lift her head up or live with herself. She pulls into the driveway and went straight to her room. She starts packing what she had brought with her and calls the airlines to purchase a ticket. She also calls her aunt Sarah to let her know that everything was fine, and she was heading back to collect her things. She couldn't tell her the problem now it was to shameful and embarrassing. She sat at her kitchen table waiting for the taxi she had called to take her to the airport. She let her parents know that she would leave tonight instead to get a head start.
There was just one last thing to do.
It was almost eight o'clock at night and visiting hours were almost over. So hopefully everyone had left by now. She slowly opens the hospital door room where her grandfather was lying down resting.
"Was wondering when you were going to come to say hello before you were gone again." he says softly to her.
Mila smiles the first one she had all day. He was sitting up and looking a lot stronger than the last time she had spoken to him. She gave him a hug and sat down next to him.
"How are you feeling?" She asks him.
"Alright I guess, I'd feel a whole lot better if you stop acting all cheery when I know you're not." He gives her a pointed look.
She sighs in defeat. "You always knew when something was wrong with me."
He grunts at that. "Care o tell me what's bothering you?"
She doesn't look at him. Honestly, for the first time in her life she didn't. What would he say to her?
"Mila?" he says slowly.
She finally looks up at him and simply says, "I'm in love with Jared, papa." The tears start to swell in her eyes.
He slowly nods his head and pats her hand. "I know pumpkin."
Her eyes widen at him. "How do you know?"
He chuckles at her. "Honey, I've always known. I was just waiting for you to figure it out yourself. It's not a real love story if people just tell you who you're in love with. It's the journey to figuring it yourself that matters." He informs.
She puts her head in her hands. "Oh papa, how could I be so blind? Now it's too late."
"What's this? Too late? He's not married yet pumpkin." She snaps her head up to stare at him.
"It doesn't matter. He doesn't feel the same way." She crosses her arms against her chest and stares at the bed.
Cale raises his eyebrows at that. "Did he say so?"
"Well no, but he didn't say he did either." No, he called it a moment, but she didn't say that out loud to him.
Cale sighs at that. Looks like he needed another talk with that boy. He wished he had time today for he knew something was troubling him, but there were too many people around, so he didn't get the chance and then that nice girl Stacy needed to get home for she still needed to get some planning done for the wedding. A wedding that shouldn't even be happening in Cale's way of thinking. And now here was his granddaughter leaving again. Seems things are getting a little out of hand.
"So what are you going to do?" he asks her.
What can she do? How was she going to compete with a girl like Stacy? She was tall and beautiful with gorgeous hair, gorgeous skin and had a body that should be posted on every damn magazine and calendar.
She sighs again. "Nothing, I'm going to let them be the underwear model and swimsuit beauty who belong to one another. They are a perfect match. No ordinary average looking girl should ruin that." She says gloomily.
Again Cale raises his eyebrows at her. Mila was no average beauty. She was a knockout and yet she didn't see it. Her phone beeps.
"I have to go papa; the taxi is still waiting for me and my plane leaves in a hour. I love you." She gets up and kisses him on the cheek.
"Call me pumpkin and just so you know, Jared is a complete moron if he truly doesn't see what I do."
That made her smile. "Thank you papa."
