Chapter 13

Darrian and Max continued to thrive in their relationship. Every day their love grew stronger and stronger. Darrian and Max had been talking to Kaylie about staying at Max's house for a weekend. After a few weeks of talking about it, Darrian and Kaylie were going over to Max's house this evening. Darrian was helping Kaylie pack a bag.

"Are you excited?" Darrian asked.

"Yeah." "Are you gonna marry Max mommy?"

"I don't know we've never talked about."

Darrian and Kaylie just arrived at Max's house. They all went upstairs to put Kaylie's things away. He opened the door to one of his guest bedrooms. Darrian and Kaylie couldn't believe it when they saw what the room looked like. The walls had been painted pink, Kaylie's favorite color. There was a bed, toys everywhere and a toy chest.

"This is your room Kaylie." Max said. "What do you think?"

"I love it." She said happily. "Thank you." She hugged him.

"You're welcome."

"Why didn't you tell me?" Darrian asked looking at Max.

"I wanted to surprise both of you."

They were all in the kitchen eating dinner. Darrian looked at Max.

"Kaylie and I are going to send in DNA samples to 23&Me." "Wanna do it with us?"

"Yeah." "It'll be fun."

Later that night Darrian had just had a nightmare. She sat up in bed. A few seconds later Max sat up.

"What's wrong?"

"I had a bad dream."

"Are you ok?"

"Yeah." "I haven't had a nightmare in a long time." "I don't know why I did." She laid back down. So did he. When she snuggled up to him he could feel her shaking.

"You're shaking."

"In my nightmares I'm always back in my house with Greg." "He's always beating me and I can't stop him."

He kissed her forehead. "He'll never hurt you again, I promise."
