After a week of the investigation it was determined the claims were unsubstantiated. By that time it was time for Max to go back on the road. He and Darrian hadn't seen each other all week. Darrian and Kaylie were at home.

"When does Max get to come home?" Kaylie asked.

"He's working right now." "He's coming home when he's done."

"It was really weird when people asked me those questions."

"I know."  "You don't have to worry about that anymore "

"I miss Max."

"Me too."

That night Darrian was just getting in bed. Her phone rang.

"Hello?" She said.

"Hi baby." Max said.

"Hi."

"I was hoping I would catch you before you went to sleep."

"I'm just about to."

"I can't wait to be home with you and the kids."

"We can't wait either." "I wish we could prove Greg tried to set you up."

"So do I but I just want to move on."

"I'm gonna go to sleep." "I love you."

"I love you too."

The next afternoon Max's phone started to ring.

"Hello?" He said.

"Hey it's Kyle." "Have you talked to Darrian today?"

"No."

"The babysitter just called and said she was supposed to pick Kaylie up two hours ago." "I'm on my way over to your place."

"Keep me posted."

"I will."

Kyle went over to the house. He knocked on the front door but no one answered. He turned the knob and the door was unlocked, so he went inside.

"Darrian?" He said stepping into the house. After taking a few steps he saw Darrian on the floor covered in blood. There was so much blood he couldn't even tell what the wounds were. He bent down to check her pulse. She was cold to the touch. "Darrian, no." He said starting to cry. He took out his phone and dialed 911.
