Over the last couple weeks Max had been spending time with Darrian and Kaylie. He and Kaylie were quickly developing a bond.

It was the middle of the night. Darrian was asleep. Kaylie came into the bedroom.

"Mommy." She said.

Darrian opened her eyes. "What's wrong?"

"I'm hot and itchy."

Darrian turned on the light. Kaylie had red bumps all over her body. "You have the chicken pox." She felt her forehead. "You're burning up." "Stay on the bed." She got up. Kaylie got on the bed. "I'm getting the thermometer." She went into the bathroom and came back with the thermometer, children's Tylenol and a glass of water. She ran the thermometer across Kaylie's head. She had a fever of 101.2. "You have a fever."

"I don't like that stuff mommy."

"I know but it will make you feel better." She took it. "Good girl." "Want to sleep with mommy tonight?"

"Yeah." They got in bed.

"You're gonna be just fine." "I'm gonna spend the whole weekend with you."

"What about your date with Max?"

"I'm gonna cancel."

The next afternoon Darrian was making Kaylie soup. Her phone rang.

"Hello?" She said.

"Hi baby." Max said.

"Hi sweetie." "I have to cancel our date tomorrow night." "Kaylie has the chicken pox."

"That's alright." "I still want to come over."

"Ok."

The next night there was a knock at the door. When Darrian answered it said saw Max holding a giant stuffed panda bear as big as he was. Darrian took it.

"I bought that as a get well present for Kaylie." Max said going inside.

"That's so sweet." They kissed. Kaylie came into the living room from the kitchen. "Look what Max got for you."

"Thank you Max." Kaylie said. She went over to him and gave him a hug.

"You're welcome."

About an hour later Max was sitting on the couch. Kaylie got on the couch next to him. She snuggled up to him. Max smiled and kissed her forehead.

Darrian saw it from the kitchen and smiled. Kaylie normally only did that with her when she was sick.
