Second Chances

Chapter 16

The last few weeks had been extremely busy for Darrian and Max. Only recently Darrian had thought about something. In case it was nothing Darrian didn't want anyone outside of her family knowing. She called Maria.

"Hello?" She said."

"It's me." Darrian said.

"Hey."

"How are the boys?"

"Good."

"I need to talk to you about something."

"Are you pregnant?"

"I don't know but I'm starting to suspect I might be." "My period is three days late." "The only other time I've been late in my life was when I was pregnant with Kaylie."

"Does Max know?"

"Not yet." "It's not time for me to take a test yet." "I think I'll wait until after I take the test."

"I say tell him now." "It's more fun to take the test together."

"Don't tell Kyle yet?"

"I won't."

Later that night Darrian and Max got in bed.

"I have something to tell you sweetie." She said. "I'm not sure yet but, I think I might be pregnant."

He smiled. "Really?"

"Yeah."

"When can you take a test?"

"Not for a few days." "I want to buy one this weekend."

He kissed her. "I love you."

"I love you too."

That Saturday everyone was home. Greg was coming to pick up Kaylie. Kaylie was upstairs.  Darrian and Max heard the doorknob jiggling. They always looked the door when they knew Greg was coming. Greg hated it. Darrian opened the door. Greg went inside. Almost immediately Darrian could tell Greg had been drinking.

"Get out of here." She said. "You're not taking her in that condition."

"Give me my daughter bitch." He started coming towards her. Max immediately got up from the couch and stood in-between them.

"You're not gonna touch her, you bastard."

"Look you asshole, this isn't fake fighting." "I will beat the shit out of you."

"I don't think so because I'll fight back." "I'm not scared of you." "If you don't leave, I'm gonna call the cops." Greg left. Max turned to her. She looked scared. He hugged her. "It's alright."" I'll never let him hurt you."
