Sanemi pov:
I was sitting on the ground after training all day. The sun had just disappeared below the horizon, meaning demons were now out. I stood up and put my haori back on, and began to walk out of my estate to patrol.
"SHINAZUGAWA." Before I could begin running, I heard Obanais voice and footsteps quickly approaching behind me. I turned around to face him and saw how distressed he looked.
"What?" I thought it was going to be him lecturing me again at first, but the look on his face was saying otherwise.
"Kanroji and y/n were sent out together... y/ns disappeared and Kanroji is injured." His words made me stop breathing for a second. 'How the hell is she always so careless...'
I had promised myself I would stay away from her. I knew it was bad. I cant let her get so close to me... but I had to. I couldn't bear the thought of her suffering. 'I hate this feeling...'
"Where were they." Obanai began running and I followed right beside him. He began to explain to me what happened as we ran through the forest, following a crow, the only light coming from the moon illuminating the sky.
"A bunch of weaklings were sent out, and they were all injured. So the master sent Kanroji and y/n to go assist. Y/n healing and Kanroji fighting. I dont know what happened, but Uzui showed up and said after he helped Kanroji kill the demon, y/n was gone..." He spoke in a rushed tone, but I could still understand completely. How could this happen? Why was she so stupid? I cant let her die now... 'I swear if Obanai was right about me regretting this...'
"Don't stress to much. A crow followed them and knows the location that they went to." This helped slightly, but I was still pissed for some reason.
"She isn't even going to fight. She doesn't like pain, but she's to damn lazy to try to escape." At this point I had realized I wasn't just pissed, I was scared. 'Could she die? I know her regeneration is insanely fast... but what if...'
"Shinazugawa, don't over think it. As soon as kakushi get to Mitsuri Uzui will head over. We will probably even get there first. Y/ns lazy, but she's also stubborn. To stubborn to die. You know that." He's right. She's one of the most stubborn people out there. I still couldn't shake the strong feelings of anger and worry, despite all of his reassuring.
"Why are you being so nice?" I asked him in an accusing tone, wondering why he was being reassuring.
"... I know you care deeply for her. Even if you deny it and push it away."
I was speechless. I don't care for her, at all. I don't miss her. I don't miss hanging out with her. I don't miss eating with her, or watching her get exited every time she saw paint, or when we would go on walks before the sunset... I didn't care. At all.
"I don't what the hell are you talking about." I snapped at him, not sure how else to convince him.
"It's obvious to me. The way you look at her isn't normal." I rolled my eyes and clicked my tung, but before I could begin to insult him the crow we were following made a sudden turn and a building came into view.
An old wooden building. On fire. With a demon walking out of it. My mind instantly thought of worst case senario and I began to panic. I was also filled with rage, not sure how or what I could do at this point. Obanai seemed to notice and took lead.
"Shinazugawa. Ill take care of the demon. You get y/n." He took stance and without a second thought we rushed into action. The demon had noticed us and I vaguely saw 'upper 5' written in it's eye. Obanai and the demon instantly started exchanging hits while I ran inside.
I looked around through all the smoke and fire, trying to locate y/n in all of this. I spotted blood stains on the floor and followed them into a room. I froze in horror for a second upon seeing y/ns current state. She was stabbed through the chest and hung on the wall from the katana, and it also appeared she couldn't regenerate for some reason. There was blood running down her whole body and staining her clothing as well. I could tell she had also been coughing up blood, a lot actually. I saw sh was beginning to lose consciousness, and I got mad and scared again.
