Karla scoffed in confusion.
"You are talking nonsense," she said. "How does she even know you are her son? Was a DNA test done? If you were her son, why would she want me to marry you so badly?"
"Because you aren't her real daughter, and she thought it would be a good match," Gabriel went on. "Look, Karla. I think it's high time you divorce Anderson. This will not be a good reputation for you."
"I do not believe you," Karla stood up from where she sat. "You are lying to me. My mum only had Anderson. She didn't say she had another son whom she gave away. You have your freaking parents! I know them! I saw them!"
"Maybe you should ask your mother how many children she gave away," Gabriel shrugged. "That should clear the confusion."
"You are crazy and desperate," Karla frowned in anger. "I cannot believe you would go to this extent. You should be very ashamed of yourself, Gabriel."
"Talk to Mrs Freya and see for yourself," Gabriel advised.
"Even if I talk to Mrs Freya, the only thing I will believe is the DNA test. If there is none to prove the point, then I will never believe you. Not even my own mother."
Karla walked out of his home banging the door shut behind her. She tapped her steering wheel for a while and c hurried to see Freya. The police were reluctant for her to go in alone, so they allowed an inspector in with her instead.
"Mama, what am I hearing," Karla asked in anger. "How is Gabriel your son? Why are you claiming everyone as your children?"
"I see that you found out," her mother smiled.
"You are a weird lady, aren't you? At this point my lawyer will come in and say that he is your missing brother. Then my servants will come and say they are your missing children!"
"I had twins, okay?" Freya explained. "The day Anderson was born, he had a twin brother. They aren't identical but they were together. I couldn't take care of them, so I gave Gabriel away to his mother whom you saw as his mother. This is like a family thing. Gabriel's family knows well that you aren't my real daughter. That was why they approved of your relationship with him."
"This....this makes no sense," Karla was going crazy.
"Nothing in life makes sense, Karla," her mother shrugged. "That's how we see it."
"Have you done a DNA test? So because a guy grew up in a family you know, he is automatically your son? Why did you even choose to tell me this now? I am already with Anderson. Do you want me to divorce Anderson and marry Gabriel?" Karla asked.
"I do not want you to be with either of them," Freya explained. "But I want Gabriel to have a part of the wealth you have. He has been in your life for a very long time, and the two families think you should repay him for all he has done for you."
"As the brother of my husband, right?" Karla frowned.
"Yes," her mother nodded. "As the brother of your husband."
"And you had to tell me this now. No one said anything while we were in that Ravine," Karla smirked as she caressed her chin. "This is a setup. Someone is lying here. It is either you or Gabriel and his greedy family."
"Karla, why would I ever lie to you..."
"Because that's what you do. You lie to everyone for your selfish gain," Karla furiously stood up. "I won't be surprised if Gabriel is doing the exact same thing. He is probably taking advantage of your greediness!"
"Karla!" Her mother roared.
"Enough, Mrs Freya!" Karla showed her palm assertively. "You have said enough."
With these words, she walked out, shutting the door behind her. Alright, now that everyone was trying to make her life a living hell...it was high time she stepped up her games. She needed to know if Gavriel was truly who he claimed to be.***
That night, she couldn't keep the news in anymore and told Anderson about it. He had the right to know anyway, and seemed to be the center of attention now.
Anderson was confused."How the hell can Gabriel be my brother?" He questioned. "I almost killed him."
"That's the bitter truth unfortunately," she said. "It's sad we will need to believe that until there is proof against it."
"This doesn't mean the end of us, does it?" He took her hands and kissed it. She sighed and smiled.
"It could be the beginning of our love story, you never know," she giggled.
"If he is truly my brother, it will be so painful for me," Anderson admitted. "I shot him on the leg, I kidnapped him...I don't know...it feels so wrong to think about him that way. We both fucked you..."
"He didn't sleep with me," Karla corrected. "I swear. We weren't that close intimately. We wanted to wait for marriage or something like that."
"Well...that's good to an extent...," Anderson said, rubbing her shoulders. "But I just hope we figure this out though, because this is crazy."
***
The next day, Karla made her way back at Gabriel's place smiling sheepishly. Gabriel seemed confused by her sudden bright mood."Okay...," he was confused. "I hope I am safe."
"I am sure you are," she said with a smile and spread out her hands for a hug. He leaned forward to hug her. She observed a strand of hair hanging behind his back and pulled it. Luckily, it was a hanging end so he hadn't noticed anything at all. She broke the hug and placed the strand in her purse.
"I believe everything you said yesterday," she lied. "My mum explained everything to me and it made more sense."
Gabriel sighed.
"Thank God you get the point," he grinned. "So, will you be divorcing him?"
Karla balanced her bag on her shoulders.
"I am still thinking about it," she admitted.
"I believe we should meet in two days to discuss more about this," Gabriel suggested. "It won't be a smart move, meeting in my home though. Let's meet at a location I will choose."
Karla didn't like that idea. She tugged to her bag trying to make sense of it.
"We could just meet at a cafe," she suggested.
"Trust me," he smirked and drew closer to her before caressing her cheeks. "I know just the perfect place to meet you."
Karla couldn't tell why she had a bad feeling about his intentions. There was something about him that was just...just off.
"Will you meet me alone, Miss Karla?" He said with a creepy tone. Alright, there was something really off going on here.
