In the next couple days while they remained in their opposite forms, Brooklyn had grown accustomed again to being in the sun, learning how to fight as a human and use a firearm from Xanatos.
Elsa herself had received gliding lessons from both Goliath and Hudson but one night Brooklyn wanted to bring her out for a glide but this time he had to ride on her back which excited him, having never done that before.
The former snow queen was a bit shaken at the idea of carrying her husband on his back, staring out at the city as he took her hand. "Hey, it'll be ok, I've carried you plenty of times." He said gently. Elsa smiled, still not used to feeling his hand as a human but she would eventually get used to it.
"Yeah sure but I'm still gonna be glad when we're back to normal." Elsa muttered, Brooklyn climbing onto her back which was really foreign for him to do, holding her shoulders gently. "C'mon, let's at least go to Central Park for a stroll. It can take our minds off of our current predicament." Brooklyn suggested, grinning at her.
Smiling back, Elsa nodded, spreading her wings, taking a shaky breath, soaring off into the night sky, Brooklyn gasping while holding on, somewhat afraid to fall. Elsa couldn't help the smirk on her beak. "You nervous?"
Brooklyn shook his head in denial. "Uh, n-no. I-I've flown before." He said in a stutter, Elsa giggling, making him blush from embarrassment. After a time he got more used to riding on another gargoyle's back, smiling from the wind in his hair. It had been too long since he went for a fly even if it was just a few days ago before their switch.
The two flew around the city for quite a while until eventually they spotted Central Park, their favorite hangout.
Elsa managed to land even with someone on her back thanks to the lessons from Hudson, Brooklyn sliding off. The weather was nice and warm, perfect for a night out in the park. But what they didn't know was while gliding, a Quarryman scout had been keeping his eyes out for any of the clan and had wound up spotting Elsa.
He grinned sinisterly, picking up a radio to call Castaway. "Sir, I found something you might be interested in; a new gargoyle is in town. Female by the looks of the beast with a human of all things on its back." He said darkly, recalling how sometimes that detective would ride with Goliath.
It made Castaway laugh on the other end. "How wonderful. You and your team track them down. Bring the gargoyle to me."
....
Meanwhile in the park Elsa and Brooklyn had the best night of their lives, Brooklyn sometimes forgetting he was still a human. They mostly goofed about in the trees or just sat on a bench, holding hands together like what a husband and wife should.
Their peaceful aura didn't last long though when Elsa's sensitive hearing picked up something that Brooklyn didn't, her eyes glowing red. Brooklyn tensed. "What is it?" He asked in worry, having the feeling they were being watched. Before Elsa could say anything, a dart shot out of the trees, hitting Elsa hard in the shoulder, making her shriek out.
Brooklyn jumped to his feet, catching his love, gasping in anger. "No!" He roared, as the Quarrymen all jumped out, surrounding the couple with their hammers. He bared his human teeth at them, holding Elsa close. One Quarryman twirled his hammer. "And whatcha gonna do eh? You're hardly the manly type to stand up to us."
That made the gargoyle turned human snarl at them. "You're about to see how manly I can be!" He growled, balling his fists after letting Elsa down gently, charging the armored humans.
He punched one hard in the face, then kicked another, glad to have gotten those fighting lessons. But Brooklyn's victory didn't last long however, as he gasped in agony from an electrified hammer hitting him, the surges going through his sensitive skin.
Brooklyn now was rather woozy, not as protected by the lightning as he was as a gargoyle, slumping to his hands and knees. He looked up weakly at the sight of their arch rival Jon Castaway slowly walking towards them, grinning.
"Well, well. Two interspecies lovers on a nighttime glide? I don't think so." Jon spat, laughing cruelly. Brooklyn then made the mistake of speaking to him. "You won't harm her!"
Hearing that voice made Castaway's eyes widen, for it was familiar. He recalled the red gargoyle who had the exact same voice. That was when Jon had a different idea in mind. "Boys, leave the beast. I think a new window of opportunity has come. Nab this one instead."
Brooklyn winced, feeling vice like arms snatch him up before he had a chance to recover, struggling, Castaway grabbing his hair. "And nice to see you again, Brooklyn isn't it?"
His captive did nothing but spit right into Jon's face, making the leader growl in disgust, smacking Brooklyn back with his backhand. "We'll soon teach you manners after we figure out how you changed. Take him."
The others nodded, one putting a cloth with chloroform on Brooklyn's face, causing Brook to gasp and struggle, trying not to breathe in the fumes, but it was too late, causing him to pass out. The Quarrymen carried Brooklyn off to their quarters, leaving Elsa to wake up.
After a time, Elsa groaned, fluttering her eyes open, wondering what had happened. It was quiet when her vision returned, too quiet. She gasped in horror when remembering the Quarrymen. And Brooklyn was gone!
"Brooklyn!" She screeched, her wings spread out, knowing that those horrible men had probably taken him. Feeling sadness and anger fueling her body, Elsa climbed a tree to fly back to the castle, hoping the clan would help her to rescue her husband.
....
Back in Castaway's headquarters, Jon had ordered Brooklyn to be tied to a pole with gargoyle proof chains in their meeting room in case he ever changed back, seeing him beginning to wake up groggily, his head hurting.
He smirked down at Brooklyn who groaned. "W-where am I?" The former gargoyle asked weakly until his eyes trailed to whoever captured him, feeling chains around his arms, struggling with all his might. "Why, with me of course. Welcome to my headquarters, Brooklyn of the Manhattan Clan. And I must say; your human form is much more fitting for me to control, wouldn't you agree?" Castaway mocked.
It caused Brook's eyes to round at the idea of being held in their greatest enemy's quarters, put on display in front of his men, the chains digging into his arms. He couldn't help but tremble. In his current form, Brook knew he had no chance against Jon Castaway, hoping that Elsa would get him away from this place.
