(mia's pov)

My heart was pounding like a drum as my hands shook nervously. I don't understand how I get in these awkward positions time and time again but this time, I have no regrets - I will befriend Charlotte.

Although this stroll along the wooded area was supposed to calm me down, I have this rather off-putting feeling, but I know I can't always trust my instincts... Or can I?

After walking around two miles, I began to feel tired and knew I needed to rest. I looked around frantically, attempting to find a place where I can sit down. That was until I laid eyes on a beautiful black figure with a gorgeous silhouette, in the near distance.

Slowly, I followed the phenomenal view until I eventually arrived a few steps behind it. This lady was gently picking berries while mumbling hushed messages and reminders to herself. Accidentally, I stepped onto a twig that lay on the ground, aligned perfectly with my feet. The brunette girl infront of me gradually spun around until we locked in eye contact.

"Hi, Charlotte." I spoke, hiding my nervousness.

"Hello. It's Mia, right?" Charlotte questioned politely with a friendly tone.

"Yeah it is. I think you and I are long overdue for our first chat." I stated bravely before landing her with a wink at the end of my sentence.

"Umm, alright.." She blurted out.

Carefully, I took her hand and lead her towards two logs I found but my heart sunk into my chest as she flinched at the direct contact. Taking our time, we both sat down in sync onto the tree stumps and made small talk before I engaged into the whole reason I wanted a chat.

"The reason I so desperately needed a chat is well.. because.."
Just as I was about to continue, I noticed her shivering and to represent my well-mannered side I offered her my hoodie which she gladly accepted.

"Anyway.. back to what I was saying." I started to which she nodded in response.

"I have to be honest with you, I know the truth about you and your past.." I spoke to her, while I bit my lip, unsure of what her next move would be.

I watched her closely as her eyes began to well up in tears and her breaths became fainter. I've never been the best at being empathetic so I was definitely not prepared.

(Charlotte's pov)

How does she know the truth..? I felt as if my whole world was crumbling down and as I tried to speak, the words got caught in my throat and my eyes went blurry from the lack of oxygen making its way into my lungs. My faint eye watering suddenly progressed into weeps and all of this happened infront of the most popular girl in school.

"I'm so sorry." I muttered out, barely above a whisper. While I fell into pieces something I never even imagined happened, Mia was comforting me. Gently, she laid her hand onto my shoulder and coached me on taking deep breaths.

"It's okay, I'm here, you can let it all out." She whispered. My sobs became louder and harder until eventually I had no tears left to cry.

"Charlotte, you're okay. If it makes you feel better, you can stay at my house tonight." Mia offered respectfully while looking at me with a small smile.

The day I say no to that question, you know something would be seriously wrong.

"I would like that.." I replied softly, my voice still hoarse from crying.
