(Mia's pov)
I couldn't hold back my weeps any longer, they finally broke free. The sight of Charlotte's unconscious body broke me, but I knew I couldn't give up. Give up on her. Give up on us. I couldn't do it.
My hands roughly pounded on her chest, attempting to make sure oxygen was making its way into her lungs. As I placed my arm over her heart, I felt it lightly move up and down. I didn't know if the breathing would last long.
I had already called for an ambulance moments before, but that didn't stop me from constantly checking my phone for updates while holding my girlfriend close. I completely forgot Roger's dead body was even there, I couldn't take my mind off of Char. Eventually, I heard blaring sirens come from the near distance so I carried Charlotte in my arms and sprinted out of the alleyway, trying to track down the ambulance quicker. I saw it so I waved an arm around in the air, I must've looked crazy. They drove over and immediately snatched Charlotte away from me, then when I tried to get closer, they just pushed me away again. My crying had died down slightly while I watched as my girl got put into a stretcher and rolled into the ambulance. They told me I could sit in the back with her as long as I was silent and still. I understand that I'm only a teenager but there was no need to be so rude about it. I felt my heart break in half as Charlotte got wires placed inside of her, connecting her to a ventilator, suppling her with a better oxygen flow.We arrived at the hospital and she rapidly got taken away into a private room. I impatiently stayed in the waiting area, hoping to get good news quickly, while occasionally screaming at the nearest nurses. My hands shook aggressively as I felt like I could've been sick, picturing how I saw Char lying on the ground at first. Suddenly, a tall, rather strict-looking doctor walked out with a serious facial expression. His whole appearance made me way too nervous. Taking large steps, he approached before asking,
"Hello. I'm told that you are here for Charlotte Victoria, is that true?"
"H-hi! Uhm, yes..." I blurted out, scared.
"Right, well, umm.. Charlotte is conscious but she does have some severe injures." He spoke.
"I'm just happy she's alive," I smiled slightly, as a feeling of relief overcame my senses.
"As are we. Now, before I allow you to see her, I must ask, are you 'Amelia Roberts'? If so, Charlotte will not stop asking for you." The doctor said.
"Yes, that's me." I responded bravely.
"Well you best go see her, but first. Please be careful with her, the state you might see her in may be disturbing. Her breathing is very light and she is extremely fragile at the moment." He formally told me.
"Okay, thank you." I replied before strolling away, desperate to see my love.As I made my way to her room, I felt my nerves on edge, worried about how Charlotte would look. Slowly, I inhaled deeply before steeping inside the room and smiling lightly,
"Hello sweetheart." I said in my most gentle voice. Her eyes fluttered cutely before replying,
"Hi Mia."
She was clearly out of breath.
She seemed mad at me for some reason.. I wasn't sure why until it clicked.
"I'm so sorry about what happened the other day. It's not what it looked like, I was only flirting with Deliah so she would meet up with me, and I could attack her for what she said to you!" I explained.
"I don't care about that right now. Just come over here, I need a cuddle." she tried to force a smile but couldn't.
With the loving smirk still remaining on my face, I strolled over to her bed and squished up next to her, making sure to kiss her temple as a form of comfort.
I understood that her body would be naturally exhausted from all of her pain, so I whispered,
"Are you tired, baby?"
I felt her nod subtly against my chest, so I made sure she was comfortable before muttering to her,
"You are beautiful." Then I kissed her softly, "You are kind," Next, I snuggled up closer, "You are all mine." I gave her a final kiss before realising she had fallen asleep, in my arms.I love this girl more than life itself.
I would do anything for us to swap positions, for it to be me who struggled with their breathing and is fighting just to stay alive.
"I really, truly, incredibly, do love you, Char." I started quietly,
"Goodnight my princess." I ended before closing my eyes too.-
I didn't realise how serious her injuries were until I realised she hadn't moved at all since I saw her. My beautiful girl doesn't deserve everything she has received. From now on, I will be her protector, forever.
This will take a lot of recovering, physically and mentally.
