Chapter 72 - Bad feeling

Alexander's pov:

Several days passed with Elektra's condition stable. We were all beginning to lose our hope, especially me. I was devastated. I just couldn't believe that I would lose Elektra after all we've been through. I really couldn't believe that there was a possibility for her to die.

I was sitting alone on a bench in the hospital park trying to release all my stress and distress when Esmeree sat beside me.

-"Hello Alex" she greeted me cordially.

I turned right to see her.

-"Esmeree" I greeted her with no mood.

-"How are you copying?" she wondered although I was sure she knew the answer.

-"Not so good" I confessed.

-"I know..... Try to hold out. Your tribulation will be soon over" she said and held my hand.

-"I really hope you're right. I was so confident that Elektra would get over this that when the doctors informed us of her deteriorating health I felt my world falling apart".

- "I can understand this... but you must have faith in our Goddess. She always does what is best for us" she tried to soothe me.

- "I don't know if I can... Since I was little my life was full of sorrows. I lost my father, my pack, my life, my youth, my childhood carelessness... Since Bartholomew's invasion my life has been full of responsibilities".

-"I know my friend.... I know..... Your tribulations will be over soon. Trust me" she said and stood up.

-"Where are you going?"

-"I'm sorry but I have an obligation I cannot avoid. I just dropped by to say hi. Take care of yourself and have faith. Things will get better soon, you'll see"

-"Thank you dearly, for passing by. You are a very good friend."

Esmeree left and I was left alone on the bench. I stayed there as I couldn't go back. I couldn't bear to see Elektra like this. Her condition was devastating. I preferred to enjoy the morning sun when my phone started ringing. I put it out of my pocket. It was David. At first I didn't want to pick it up. I was afraid that David might have some bad news for me. I let it ring for a while until it stopped. I put the phone aside and closed my eyes. I went to my fantasy world again. As a child, when things in life became more difficult, I hid in my refuge: an imaginary place where reality could not affect me.

My phone started ringing again. I glanced at it. It was David again. I took a deep breath and decided to pick it up.

- "Alex you have to come here immediately" he said and closed it. My heart started beating fast. That was it. Elektra was leaving us or has already left. Oh my Goddess how do I deal with her death? I went in with a heavy heart. I got up the stairs with great difficulty. I finally arrived outside Elektra's room. Several minutes went by. Roxanne and David stood there waiting in pure agony. No one knew what was going on inside Elektra's room. The minutes became hours but still we had no news about her condition. As the hours passed, our pain became more and more excruciating while our hopes were dashed.

-"Miss River's relatives come forward please!" the nurse's voice brought me back to reality.

Roxanne, David and I immediately stood up and approached her.

-"What's going on? Please tell us!" Roxanne spoke first.

-"The operation went well. Miss Rivers returned to her room. There is no reason for you to concern about her health. Fortunately she escaped death"

-"Thank you, Goddess!" Roxanne exclaimed in satisfaction and the three of us hugged tightly.

-"When can we see her?" I asked.

-"When the effect of the anesthesia wears off», the nurse explained to us and got away.

We were filled with absolute joy and happiness. Elektra has escaped danger. Once again, our goddess performed her miracles. All I really hope for is that we get back together with Elektra.

When Elektra finally woke up, we were able to see her and speak with her. She looked exhausted but fortunately she wasn't as week as she looked before.

Two days passed with me flying on cloud nine. Electra was getting better day by day. I could not believe it! I was so happy, I even forgot about that Andros bastard. All this time he remained locked in the dungeons. Although he confessed everything, I could not let him go free. He must pay for everything he did to my precious mate. Although I knew he is one of Bartholomew's pawns, I will not be magnanimous because he never regretted his actions. I will keep him locked up until I decide what his punishment will be.

I went back to the hospital to see Elektra. When I walked in, I found her awake talking to Roxanne. She looked happy and carefree.

-"Oh my goddess! You are awake!" I exclaimed in enthusiasm and approached her.

-"Alexander" she said timidly. "Roxanne informed me about your daily visits" she said in a calm tone that broke my heart.

-"I...I...." I had so much to tell her in my mind but I couldn't say a single word in front of her....

-"I would like to thank you for being here and for everything you have done for me so far"

-"I....I'm so glad you're awake! You don't have to thank me for anything!" I explained to her.

-"Anyway I wanted to say thank you" she explained.

-"Can we have a moment alone?" I asked Elektra.

-"What would you like to talk about?" she asked.

-"I would like to talk with you about our bond and our relationship" I said hesitantly.

-"I'm sorry but I'm too tired for any kind of talk" she said avoiding looking at me. Her words disappointed me deeply.

-"I'll let you rest" I told her and headed for the door. It was obvious that Elektra didn't share the same opinion about our bond with me. I must admit that she was right in a way. I have abandoned her in her most difficult time. I preferred Monica than her when she was fighting for her life here. Unfortunately for me Roxanne affects her in a negative way.

I decided to give her some space and deal with my pack's pending issues. I called Steve to inform him that I would be in my office for the rest of the day.

It was late at night and I was still working at my office over some important issues when my phone started to ring. The number was unknown to me so I decided not to pick it up but the phone kept ringing.

-"Yes" I said annoyed. At first I didn't hear anything. "Who is it?" I asked to no avail. Nobody answered. I was about to hang it up when I heard a woman's scream and then a deep sardonic laugh. Then he hung up.

-"Who is it? Who is it?" I wondered. "What was that?" I asked myself. That phone call didn't sit well with me. I had a really bad feeling about it.
