It was so bizarre how the mate bond dominated my being. Every breath I took, every thought I had, revolved around her. The need to know how she was, what she was doing, and if she was safe was a constant reminder that my other half existed out there in the world.

The bond was a strange, powerful feeling, yet it filled my soul with so much happiness in ways I could not describe out loud. Mia Taylor was a tiny little thing that encouraged me to fight for what was rightfully mine.

The past three days and nights were spent learning her routine—her likes and dislikes, what time her lights went off, and whether she had had enough at dinner. It was weird how Zeus and I noticed every little detail.

We could sense her mood just by the rhythm of her breath in the morning. We noticed how she always draped her hair over her left shoulder when uncertain or double-knotted her white laces before walking into the main hall, ensuring she would not have to stop and tie them in front of everyone.

Patrolling her area late at night like we were warriors was necessary, like the air in our lungs.

"Can we go in this time?" Zeus' voice was eager, his impatience seeping into my thoughts.

"You mean breaking in while she sleeps?" I asked, though I already knew his answer.

"Yeah! We have skills. If we see a change of breathing, we can get out without freaking her out."

I stared at her window, weighing the pros and cons. "Come on, Alex. You know we can do it."

With a sigh, I gave in to his demands. We entered her dorm without making a sound, like shadows moving in the night. I settled into a reading chair near her bed, my eyes never leaving her peaceful form. The nearly full moon illuminated the room, casting a soft glow over her as she slept so vulnerable.

"Get closer! You're too far." Zeus urged.

"No!" I replied firmly. I did not want to touch her, not yet. There was no telling what Zeus would do once we felt her skin against ours.

"Alex!!!!!" He whined like a scolded puppy.

I exhaled slowly. "Once you quiet down a notch, I will touch her."

"Fine!" He muttered, but I could feel his anticipation like a wolf waiting to pounce.

We both fell silent, watching her.

"What do you think she's dreaming of?" Zeus asked, his curiosity bubbling to the surface.

"Not sure, but it must be something good. Look at her face." I murmured, entranced by the calmness that radiated from her sleeping form.

"She must be dreaming about us," Zeus said confidently.

I chuckled softly at his enthusiasm. "Oh, my friend, she sure as hell isn't dreaming about you. Claws and fangs tend to be a bit of a turn-off."
