Attending class just five doors down from her fascinated me. If I focused hard enough, I could catch the soft pattern of Mia's breathing and its subtle shift as she sat through lessons. That gentle rhythm soothed Zeus in his restless state. Now and then, the sound of her letting out a long, frustrated sigh after answering a question wrong brought a quiet smile to my face. It was strange how something so simple could captivate us as if we were tied to every breath she took.

"Oh, great. This is all we need today!" Zeus huffed inside me.

"What?" I asked, sensing his unhappiness. I froze in place, clenching the handle of my football bag.

"She's in there with your fan club," Zeus growled.

"You know, Zeus, I'm getting fed up with your bullshit lately. If I remember correctly, you also enjoyed yourself with those girls while we were stuck here. Remind me again what you used to say?" I asked sarcastically. "Wait a second, it was... It was something like, 'Well, mate, if we'll be stuck here, we might as well kill time and enjoy it.' Am I quoting you correctly, Zeus, or did I forget any words?"

He grew quiet. "What? No comeback now?" I paused. "Yeah, I didn't think so, mate!"

I concentrated on listening to the conversation in the girls' bathroom, and the first voice I heard was Carly's.

"So... you aren't an item anymore. Am I getting it right?"

"Of course we are!" Ashley snapped, quickly washing her hands, pretending everything was fine.

"Are you sure? Because he seemed far too invested in that brunette. His face lit up like Christmas morning while talking to her."

Ashley pretended to laugh. "You know Alex; he just wants a taste of the fresh grass. The girl means nothing to him. He'll be bored of her tomorrow and come running back to me."

Four scents were inside the place, one undeniably Mia's.

"Fuck!!" I growled out loud.

Mia was already paranoid about me having a bet and not being serious. Now, hearing all this bathroom gossip, she would have even more fuel to add to her baseless theory.

I paced the school halls, listening to their gobshite conversation. I clenched my fists several times until they cracked to prevent myself from punching the door and dragging Mia out. And Zeus' annoyance and mounting anger intensified my own, making my blood boil.

I tried to calm down by leaning against a wall, but it was useless. Before I knew it, my hand shot out, grabbing Ashley's wrist as soon as she stepped outside. With a swift, sharp movement, I slammed her against the wall, the impact echoing in the empty hallway.

Zeus' rage clawed at my mind, urging me to break her, but my control, thin as paper, held firm. The raw power coursing through me made it hard to see straight. My muscles twitched with the urge to destroy, to let Zeus take over, but I knew that was not the answer. I would not lose control—I would not kill her.
