The heat radiating from her body soaked into mine, a slow burn that curled into my chest and spread through every inch of me. Her soft, steady breaths against my skin made me dizzy, the closeness overwhelming, like I was standing at the edge of something I could not escape. It was not just comforting—it was consuming. Her body fit perfectly against mine, and for a moment, it felt like the world outside this moment did not exist. But I had to speak before Mia fortified those walls around her heart again.
"Mia, why do you keep fighting this?"
She remained still, but I knew her lips were parting as if to say something. When she spoke, her voice was soft, almost resigned. "Because I don't know what this is, Alex. I don't know what you want from me."
My grip tightened around her, grounding her in the heat between us. "I want you, Mia—all of you. And you want me too—you just won't admit it. I promise I don't want to hurt you," my voice dropped lower. "But I can't ignore this connection. It's impossible."
She did not respond, but I could feel her confusion, her frustration.
Zeus growled inside me, urging me to push harder. "She's weakening. Don't let her slip away." His instincts were powerful, but I could not press her too hard.
I turned to face her and commanded. "Mia, look at me."
As soon as the words left my mouth, her body turned towards me. It was as if my Alpha command had finally made sense to her.
Zeus' was right. The bond had strengthened.
"This thing between us... what we feel, it's not going away. No matter how much you try to resist it."
Her eyes flickered with uncertainty. "You don't know that."
"I do. It's in every breath you take, every time you look at me, every time you try to push me away. The bond is there, Mia. You feel it, just like I do."
She shook her head, her voice trembling. "I don't know what you're talking about."
I leaned in closer, my voice dropping to a whisper. "Yes, you do."
I closed the rest of the distance between us, now barely inches apart, my voice steady yet soft. "You can deny it all you want, but we both know the truth."
"You don't know anything," she whispered, her voice shaking.
I reached out, gently cupping her chin and tilting her face toward mine. "I know more than you think, love. You can hide from everyone else, but can't hide from me."
She turned her gaze away, her voice quiet. "It's overwhelming."
I swallowed, feeling the bond tighten in response to her words. "You don't have to deal with it alone."
There was a long silence, but finally, Mia spoke, her voice quiet but steady. "I need time, Alex. I need time to figure this out."
I nodded, though it took every ounce of control to keep Zeus from roaring in protest. "I can give you time. But don't wait too long, Mia. Because this isn't something you can run from forever."
