Halloween was the only night of the year I let Zeus roam freely in the human world. His captivating, amber eyes glowed in the dim light but could easily be passed off as contacts. He loved this night, relishing the irony of a powerful Alpha walking unnoticed among humans. The thrill of blending in and fooling them amused him to no end.

"I need you to be on your best behaviour tonight, Zeus," I said, smoothing my hair in front of the mirror.

Zeus snorted. "You sound like a boring old human. Who are you now? My father?" He leaned back, laughing about his joke.

I rolled my eyes, knowing exactly what he was trying to do. "We both know what I'm talking about, Zeus."

"Relax, Alex. Everything's under control. Besides, the heat brought us closer to our little one. Soon, we'll be mated, and we can leave this bloody place I can't stand."

As the school year progressed, things changed between Mia and me. The heat had forged a more profound connection than I had anticipated. As I predicted, she struggled to function without me nearby, and most nights, she stayed at my penthouse. It was not just about the physical need anymore—it was something much more powerful, a bond neither of us could break.

The lift chimed, announcing arrivals.

"It's showtime," Zeus declared, his reflection smirking back at me. With effortless dominance, he seized complete control of my body, his strides confident as he made his way into the wide, open space.

Six of the boys from my team piled out, already excited for the party. My penthouse had become the ultimate spot for these events, and Halloween was always the highlight. Anything they wanted flowed freely.

"Bro, I'd do anything to have a place like this," Mario laughed, punching my arm. "And the best part—parents free."

Zeus snickered at me. "If that sounds like a consolation, sometimes I think I have one here," he said, clearly talking about me.

"Shut up, Zeus," I groaned in his mind.

More people arrived, and Carlos cracked open a beer. "I heard Jordan wasn't invited. What's the deal with that?"

The boys turned to me, expecting an answer, and I would have come up with an excuse; Zeus, on the other hand, could be bothered.

"He's no longer on the team. He's not one of us anymore," Zeus said flatly.

"That was harsh," Ben muttered, sipping his drink.

"Was it?" Mario and Carlos chimed in, laughing. "He's just lurking around like a lost puppy."

Zeus found that particularly amusing. "A lost pup, indeed," he echoed, raising his drink in a mock salute.

I was done with the chatter and content to let Zeus handle things. "Play a good host and wake me up when Mia arrives."
