"You're curious how she has a wolf at this age. You shouldn't have seen that, pup." The wolf spoke slowly, his voice calm yet laced with a deadly edge. But I knew better than to take his calm for granted. Stories of his power had travelled far, tales of an Alpha who never needed to raise his voice to clarify his point.

He kept calling me pup, precisely what I was in that room. I was no match for his strength if he chose to kill me for seeing his daughter's wolf.

It was unheard of. How could that pup already have a wolf at that age? Was she born like that or made by the witches?

But how did he sense my feelings, as if reading me? In a split second, I was pinned against the wall, my feet dangling in the air and his claws digging into my neck. I scented the blood.

Fuck! My blood.

My eyes flashed, and I thought Zeus would take over and put up a fight or at least defend ourselves. But he did nothing. Alpha Maximus' wolf stared at my face. His head tilted slightly from one side to another, examining me. Then, as swiftly as before, his claws retracted, and I was on the floor searching for air.

"My darling," he said, addressing the little pup, "find your mummy and tell her Alpha Alexander will dine with us at the cabin."

She smiled serenely. "She already knows, Daddy." Her voice was so harmonic that my body felt calm again.

He looked at her, his fierce aura melting away as he chuckled. "Of course she does. I can never surprise her."

What the hell just happened? The big bad wolf was about to kill me, and now he will let me live and feed me. None of this made sense.

"Zeus?" I called but could not reach him.

The wolf extended a hand, helping me from the floor. "Welcome to my home, Alpha Alexander. I am Ares, and you needn't worry about your father. We'll discuss the protection of your mate over dinner."

We drove deeper into his territory until we arrived at an isolated wooden cabin nestled in the forest. Its floor-to-ceiling windows offered a breathtaking view. No other houses were around, and the place was completely isolated from the pack. There were no warriors around to protect his family, either.

Did he like privacy that much? His pack house was massive, and the Alpha wing must be big and comfortable for him and his family. Why would they stay there?

"Max and I built this for our mate while we searched for her," Ares said, a faint smile crossing his face. "Impressive, no?"

"Yes, it's incredible." The words barely escaped as I took in the rustic beauty of the cabin.

His chest rose, proud of his achievements. The place was huge.

Ares opened the car's back door, and the pup dashed ahead of us, skipping to open the front door. Instantly, a blend of three distinct scents filled the air.
