I shift uncomfortably in my seat, my butt feeling as though it might go numb from hours of sitting without a break. The lecture stretches endlessly, and this damned chair offers no comfort. Frustration creeps in as I try to adjust for a more comfortable position, but the discomfort is relentless.
Gently, I rest my head on the table, watching as pens and pencils roll across my desk from the sudden movement. I was in an internal battle with the demons to not close my eyes and drift off to sleep. The professor's monotonous voice isn't helping either; it's like the world's worst lullaby, coaxing me to sleep while I desperately cling to consciousness.
"Dae, get up. He's looking"
Wooyoung whispers in my ear, his tone laced with warning. I snap my eyes open and lift my head, just in time to meet the professor's disapproving gaze. "Last warning, Miss. Kwon"
A mumbled apology escapes my lips, barely audible over the collective snickering of the class. I quickly glance at Wooyoung, who wears an indifferent "not my problem" expression. With a casual shrug of his shoulders, he makes it clear he's not offering any help or sympathy. I roll my eyes at his response, barely suppressing a muttered curse under my breath.
Though I try to focus on the professor's lecture, my thoughts have already drifted far from the classroom. My gaze wanders toward the window, where the sun blazes brilliantly, casting a golden hue over the campus grounds. A few students stroll leisurely toward the cafeteria without a care in the world. I sigh, feeling tired, hungry, and generally irritated with university.
At that moment, I notice a hand delicately sliding a small pack of chocolate toward me. A smile of amusement creeps across my face as I watch the gesture, and I can't help but let out a soft chuckle before reaching for the pack with a sense of appreciation.
I cast a discreet glance back at Wooyoung, noticing the subtle, lopsided smile playing on his lips. He silently mouths the word "eat," offering me a reassuring nod before effortlessly shifting his attention back to the front.
After ensuring the professor is still preoccupied with the computer, I carefully unwrap the packet, slipping a small piece into my mouth. The rich sweetness melts across my taste buds, filling me with a quiet sense of indulgence.
I lean back in my chair, letting my eyes drift shut, completely indifferent to the professor's bustling activity or the world around me. In that moment, nothing else matters.
