Blackie at night
Kai was peacefully sleeping one early morning when he heard she soft pitter patter of feet.
Must be Mia, he thought.
He smiled softly, imagining his cute three year old sister.
Sure, she was a handful, but Kai loved her a lot.
But as he nestled into the blanket, someone blew a horrible note in his ear.
" AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" He yelled as he jumped.
A small voice giggled. " kai wike?"
Kai rubbed his eyes. It was Mia.
" Mia, what are you doing at this hour?!" He mumbled. " It's seven in the morning, for goodness sake."
Mia frowned a little. " Sowy. I wanted to ask yu to take my cookies out of owen."
" Well, fi- WHAT!" He jumped out of bed. " What did you say?"
" Take cookies out of owen? Why?"
Kai's eyes widened as he stared at Mia, still processing what she said. "Mia... did you put cookies in the oven by yourself?" he asked, his voice rising in panic.
Mia nodded, her big innocent eyes blinking up at him. "Uh-huh. I was hungwy."
Kai scrambled out of bed, rushing toward the kitchen with Mia toddling behind him. "Oh no, no, no, no," he muttered under his breath. He could already imagine the mess, or worse—something catching fire.
When he got to the kitchen, the oven was still on, but luckily nothing was burning. Kai let out a sigh of relief, quickly turning it off. He grabbed the mitts and carefully opened the oven, pulling out a tray of misshapen, slightly burnt cookies.
Mia beamed proudly. "I made dem for you."
Kai looked at the cookies, then at his little sister, who was waiting for praise. He couldn't be mad. Instead, he ruffled her hair, letting out a chuckle. "Thanks, Mia. Next time, let's make cookies together, okay?"
