Mia stretched and yawned as the sun hit her body. She turned onto her stomach and looked at her cat, who was lying down on the mat, his nose and Mia's nose touching. " Hello."

Blackie opened a lazy eye. " Hi."

Mia smiled. " How are you doing?"

" I've been better."

Mia rolled her eyes. " Oh, you sassy sassy cat."

Blackie yawned and stood up, walking onto Mia's head, then her body, kneading it with his paws. " When are your friends gonna come?"

" Dunno."

" Why aren't they here yet?"

" Dunno."

" Are you gonna say that the whole time?"

" Dunno."

Blackie sat on her back. " Really?"

Mia grinned. " Eh."

Blackie groaned.

Blackie flicked his tail and gave Mia a look of pure feline disdain. "You're impossible, you know that?"

Mia just shrugged, lying still as Blackie made himself comfortable on her back, kneading his paws into her like he was giving a very reluctant massage.

"Hmm," she said, stretching her arms out in front of her. "At least I'm useful for something."

"Useful for my entertainment, maybe," Blackie muttered, his paws pressing a little harder. "But a real bed wouldn't talk back."

Mia chuckled, rolling her shoulders slightly. "A real bed wouldn't feed you mango slices, either."

Blackie scoffed, though he didn't move from his cozy spot. "Fair point. You're almost as good as a bed, I suppose."

"Almost?"

"Well..." Blackie paused, pretending to think it over. "You're kinda bony. And you talk a lot."

"Oh, don't hold back," Mia laughed. "Tell me how you really feel."

Blackie leaned down, his nose close to her ear, and whispered in a dramatically low voice, "I think you could use a new pillow, and maybe some tuna snacks would improve your appeal."

Mia burst out laughing, shaking Blackie off in the process. He tumbled off her back but landed gracefully, as always, giving her a very indignant look.

"Ugh, humans," he sighed, sitting down with his tail curled around his paws. "Always ruining the moment."

"Alright, alright," Mia said, wiping a tear of laughter from her eye. "Let's see if I can make it up to you." She patted the ground next to her. "Come on, Blackie. Sit with me and we'll just wait for my friends in silence, okay?"

Blackie huffed but moved over and settled beside her, closing his eyes. "Fine. But only because I'm too tired to argue anymore."
