Same day as last
" Okay, we need strawberries, blueberries, bananas, and..... What does that say?"
Kai looked over Jay's shoulders. " Uh.... Gummy bears?"
Jay groaned. " Who wrote that?"
" My sister."
" Your si- oh. What flavor does she want? And what type? Oh, a-"
" You can just ask me, you know." Nya said in a flat tone, arms crossed as she stood next to her Yang.
" Oh. Sorry."
Nya shook her head with a fond smile. " It's fine, Jay. Anyway, what else do we need?"
Jay scanned the list. " Well, Wu wants some more tea, Cole wants... Wait.... Didn't I JUST get him more mouthwash?!"
" Uh, no. That was for me." Kai said.
" Oh. Okay. Anyway, Zane wants some broccoli and pasta, an-" he abruptly cut himself off when he looked up. " Wait. Where's my sister?"
" Where do you think?" A voice said from behind Jay
" Gah!" Jay yelled as he jumped and turned.
Then he sighed. " Why do you need to do that?"
" Because it's fun."
Jay stared at the cat. " No it's not. Anyway, where is she?"
Blackie pointed his tail to the chocolate section. Jay groaned
" Oh boy."
Jay sighed, bracing himself as he followed Blackie’s tail to the chocolate section. He turned the corner to see his sister, Mia, in full chocolate-hoarding mode. She was stacking chocolate bars into her arms, practically shaking with excitement as she grabbed as many as she could carry. Her eyes sparkled with mischief, and there was a hint of determination on her face as she surveyed the shelves, making sure she didn’t miss a single variety.
“Mia!” Jay called out, hands on his hips. “What do you think you’re doing?”
Mia froze mid-grab, looking up at her brother with wide, innocent eyes, though her arms were overflowing with every type of chocolate imaginable. “Uh… shopping?”
Jay shook his head, half exasperated, half amused. “Shopping doesn’t mean buying out the entire chocolate section. We’re supposed to be getting groceries, not planning a chocolate apocalypse.”
Mia grinned cheekily, clutching the chocolate bars closer. “I need these for... um... survival!”
“Survival?” Jay raised an eyebrow. “Explain that one, Mia.”
“Yeah, I’m interested too,” Blackie chimed in, his tail swishing as he settled himself on a nearby shelf, watching with an expression of amused curiosity. “What exactly are you surviving, Mia? An army of broccoli?”
Mia rolled her eyes but didn’t let go of her precious loot. “Look, chocolate is an essential food group,” she said, her tone dead serious. “Besides, you know I have a huge sweet tooth, Jay! And there’s no way I’m leaving the store without at least…” She trailed off, counting under her breath as she glanced at her arms. “Fifteen bars?”
“Fifteen?!” Jay exclaimed, trying to keep his voice down as a couple of other shoppers looked over curiously.
“Hey, that’s restraint for me,” Mia said, narrowing her eyes at him as if she were being totally reasonable. Before Jay could respond, Mia darted around him, arms full of chocolate, heading straight for the ice cream aisle with surprising speed.
