NIDHI
A while later, we were dining together. Shreya sat to my left, and my dear husband to my right. Leaning close to my ear, Shreya whispered, "Bhabhi, your earrings looks beautiful." I turned to her, and she gave me a deep, feline smile.
"Where did you get them?" she asked. I glanced toward my husband, subtly gesturing that they were a gift from him. Her smile widened, turning teasing. I shook my head, and she giggled softly.
"Bhabhi," Roshni's sudden voice interrupted. I looked up at her. Our conversations had become strained since the incident that day.
"Bhabhi, could you give me the notes?" she asked.
"Which ones?" I inquired.
"The ones from what you were teaching yesterday," she clarified.
"I'll send you the snapshots," I replied.
"Okay," she chirped happily.
"We don't get such delicious food in the US," Mausaji remarked.
"Yes, especially the noodles," Mausi added, referring to the Chinese dish we were enjoying. We had a mix of Chinese and Indian cuisine on the table.
"It's from Bhaiya's restaurant," Aadarsh chimed in.
"It's yours too, Aadarsh," Vaibhav immediately corrected him.
"And, Roshni's as well," he added.
"Yeah, you say that, but it's you who's really put in all the hard work," Aadarsh responded modestly.
"You know, Mausaji, wherever I go these days, people are ordering from there, dining there" Aadarsh continued proudly.
"Hmm, I saw the resort's advertisement in the newspaper," Mausaji said, clearly impressed.
"Our boy is sharp and capable," he added. I glanced at Vaibhav, who was eating in silence. When our eyes met, I caught a fleeting glimpse of vulnerability, quickly masked by a polite smile.
I longed to know him with the clarity of gazing through a crystal-clear stream.
I wanted to reveal myself to him as well, to share my story, to explain why I am the way I am. If I were to surrender myself to him, I needed him to surrender too.
"Bhabhi, could you pass me the mushrooms?" Shreya asked, gesturing towards the serving dish in front of Vaibhav. As I and my husband, reached for it at the same time, our hands brushed against each other, drawing everyone's attention to the moment.
"And the paneer too," she added, prompting me to pick up the dish.
"Shreya, you should think about losing some weight and eating less; otherwise, no good man will marry you," Mausi suddenly commented.
"Mom," Abhishek groaned before anyone else could react.
"Mom, you shouldn't make such remarks," he said firmly.
