"Yeah, I know," I forced a smile, wanting to get away from her.
I love my mam, I really do, but the woman was completely overbearing.
Since secondary school she had told me the same thing everyday before I left:
Stay away from drugs, alcohol and boys with tattoos.
Those three things had been easy enough when I attended Tommen College, but I had no idea what to expect walking through the doors of Ballylaggin Community School.
I knew it wouldn't be the same as Tommen's posh rugby vibe. And I expected there to be a lot more opportunity to break one of my mom's rules.
Or maybe all three.
Transferring schools in my fifth year wasn't exactly ideal, but all things considered it was the right choice.
When I finally made it out of my Mams car, I headed towards the school and shoved open the doors.
It was immediately a whole different feeling. It was simple and honestly looked straight out of a movie. With lockers lining the hallways and wooden classroom doors.
Shit, I really am slumming it.
Pushing my way through students, I finally found the office and entered it, trying not to look like a lost puppy dog.
Approaching the secretary, I gave her a warm smile and said, "Hi, it's my first day. Apparently someone is giving me a tour."
"Yeah," She nodded, "That girl over there."
My eyes moved to where she was pointing and they landed on a girl with black hair and big brown eyes.
"So, you're Gabriella," The girl looked me up and down before standing from the bench she was seated on, "You're not what I expected."
"Um," I furrowed my brow, "Okay?"
"I'm Camryn," She extended her hand, "But you can call me Cam."
Taking her hand and giving it a shake, I nodded, "Nice to meet you."
"You too," Cam smiled, "Let's go, I'll show you around this hell hole."
She pushed open the office door and led me back into the hallway. I followed behind her as she pointed out the things we passed.
"There's the toilets. Don't use the big stall at the end, people are always smoking in there," She blabbed, "Oh and there's my locker. Do you have one yet? Or do you need to get one?"
"I got one," I replied, unfolding the sheet of paper with my schedule and locker number on it, "407."
"Two down from mine!" Cam grinned, "Perfect, that's this one right here. Do you want to put your stuff in it?"
"Yeah, this bag is super heavy," I nodded, "It has all my textbooks in it."
"Shit girl," Cam laughed, "You actually bring your textbooks to school? Are you a swot?"
