The ride back from the mall was quieter than usual, though not in a bad way. Taehyung was still reeling from his embarrassment, but his hand rested loosely in Jungkook’s, their fingers occasionally brushing as the car rumbled down the road. Despite the teasing, Taehyung couldn’t help but feel warmth bubble up inside him, a strange comfort that came from knowing Jungkook hadn’t been annoyed by his jealousy—in fact, he’d seemed amused, even flattered. As they arrived back at the villa, Jungkook parked the car and turned off the engine, sitting back for a moment, his hand still resting in Taehyung’s.
“You’re awfully quiet,” Jungkook said, glancing at him from the driver’s seat. His voice was light, but there was a hint of curiosity in his tone.
Taehyung bit his lip, glancing down at their intertwined hands. “Just… thinking.”
Jungkook raised an eyebrow. “About?”
“About earlier…” Taehyung’s voice trailed off, his cheeks flushing again at the memory of the mall incident. He could still see the look on Jungkook’s face, the teasing smile, the amusement in his eyes.
Jungkook’s lips twitched into a small smile. “Still embarrassed?”
Taehyung let out a sigh, leaning his head back against the seat. “It’s not funny,” he muttered, though a small part of him knew it was. “I really thought you were flirting with her.”
Jungkook chuckled softly, shaking his head. “You know, for someone who’s usually so composed, you get flustered really easily.”
Taehyung frowned, turning his head to look at Jungkook. “It’s not that. I just—” He hesitated, the words he wanted to say catching in his throat. The jealousy had been unexpected, even for him, but now, sitting here in the quiet of the car, he couldn’t deny what it meant. He cared about Jungkook—more than he was willing to admit, even to himself.
Jungkook’s gaze softened as he watched Taehyung, the playful edge fading from his expression. He reached over, gently cupping Taehyung’s chin and turning his head so they were facing each other fully. “Hey,” he said quietly, his voice lower now, more serious. “You know I’m not interested in anyone else, right?”
Taehyung’s breath hitched at the sincerity in Jungkook’s tone. His heart fluttered, and suddenly, the villa felt too small, the car too close. “I just… I don’t know what to think sometimes,” he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper. “You tease me so much, and I don’t know where we stand.”
Jungkook’s expression softened even more, and he leaned in closer, his thumb brushing lightly against Taehyung’s cheek. “I tease you because I like you, Tae,” he murmured, his eyes searching Taehyung’s. “And because it’s fun seeing you blush.” He smirked at the last part, but the warmth in his voice remained.
Taehyung swallowed hard, his heart racing. He felt Jungkook’s hand still cupping his cheek, the warmth of his palm grounding him. “You… like me?”
Jungkook nodded, his eyes never leaving Taehyung’s. “Of course I do. I thought I made that pretty obvious by now.”
Taehyung felt his breath catch again, and suddenly, all the teasing and playful moments between them took on a new meaning. He had always thought it was just part of their odd dynamic, part of how they navigated this arranged marriage. But hearing Jungkook say it so plainly, so earnestly, made everything feel different.
“I…” Taehyung’s voice caught in his throat, and he looked away, feeling a surge of emotions that he didn’t quite know how to process. He hadn’t expected this. He hadn’t expected Jungkook to feel the same way he did—because somewhere along the line, between all the teasing and the playful banter, Taehyung had realized that he liked Jungkook too.
Jungkook gently tilted Taehyung’s face back toward him, his expression soft. “You don’t have to say anything,” he said quietly. “I just wanted you to know.”
For a moment, they sat in silence, the air between them heavy with unspoken feelings. Taehyung’s heart was pounding in his chest, but for the first time, it wasn’t out of embarrassment or awkwardness. It was because, for the first time, he knew exactly what he wanted.
Slowly, he leaned forward, his hand reaching up to rest against Jungkook’s. “I like you too,” he whispered, his voice barely audible, but the weight of the words was undeniable.
Jungkook’s eyes widened for a brief moment, a look of surprise flashing across his face before a slow, warm smile spread across his lips. “Yeah?”
Taehyung nodded, his own smile tugging at the corners of his mouth despite the nervous flutter in his chest. “Yeah.”
Without another word, Jungkook closed the distance between them, his lips pressing softly against Taehyung’s in a gentle, lingering kiss. It wasn’t rushed or teasing—it was slow, tender, and filled with everything they hadn’t said up until now.
When they finally pulled away, Taehyung’s cheeks were flushed, but this time, it wasn’t from embarrassment. His heart felt light, and for the first time in what felt like forever, he wasn’t second-guessing anything. He looked at Jungkook, his eyes soft, and smiled.
Jungkook grinned back, his hand still resting on Taehyung’s cheek. “I guess this means I can tease you even more now, huh?”
Taehyung rolled his eyes, but there was no hiding the smile on his face. “Don’t push your luck.”
They laughed together, the tension between them easing as the reality of their feelings settled in. It was a new chapter—one that neither of them had expected, but one that felt right.
And as they finally stepped out of the car, hand in hand, Taehyung couldn’t help but feel like everything was starting to fall into place.
