Kabanata 54
Gate
Namamalikmata nanaman siguro ako. While we were casually strolling the Crocodile zoo, I kept thinking about Christie and Sir Killian's security detail at biglang natandaan ko si Gerry. Kaya siguro ganito.
This was just a figment of my imagination. Hindi si Gerry 'to.
Malabong si Gerry 'to.
"Geraldino Tuason?" I asked the man who was walking towards me.
Different from the way the house looked before we had it rented, from the orange-y paints to the non-existent perimeter fences, ngayo'y medyo katanggap-tanggap na na kulay-banana 'yong bahay at binabakuran na ng puting folding gates. The vacant, weed-filled patches of soil that used to surround it are also now well-cemented at may disenteng pader nang nakapalibot.
We just stood in the middle of the quiet street. Oras siguro ng siesta ng mga bata, because it was usually rowdy here. The neighborhood kids were usually cycling or playing balls with their playmates and dogs.
I had to force myself to sound that the process was just nothing and that it was the usual procedure.
I nodded.
I immediately shook my head with my hands. "Ay hindi na po."
Tumango naman siyang muli. "Sige po, Ma'am. Mga anong oras po kayo pupwede bukas?"
I blinked at him.
"Ah, hindi na po kailangan," I pointed at the papers on his hand.
