Narrator:
For several weeks, Nightmare's castle had become an unreal setting for Cross.
It all started with the strange training that Nightmare had ordered, something that, at first, seemed like a joke or a misinterpretation, but that quickly became his daily routine.
Crescent, Nightmare's young son, had taken his role as *trainer* very seriously, although what he taught had nothing to do with combat skills or strategies, as Cross would have expected. Instead, Cross found himself learning a set of skills that made absolutely no sense to him.
At first, his *instructor* focused on teaching him how to behave like a princess. Crescent gave him orders with the confidence of a royal prince, and Cross was forced to follow them, no matter how ridiculous they were.
But things only got worse as time went on. The little prince did not limit himself to teaching simple elegant walks. No, he decided that Cross should learn how to drink tea properly, something Cross had never done nor had any intention of learning.
Sitting at a makeshift table in the backyard, Crescent made him hold the tiny porcelain cup delicately, raise his pinky and sip elegantly, while Killer watched everything with a mocking smile, faithfully playing the role of the little boy's assistant.
Not only that. Crescent instructed him in the art of sitting *like a lady*. The legged X had to maintain a rigid posture, with his legs together and his feet delicately placed.
As if that wasn't humiliating enough, Crescent made him wear a small princess crown, something that clearly amused him more than Cross. Every time he placed it on his head, Crescent would laugh and watch him with a mischievous smile, as if he were watching the most feared warrior in the castle become a child's toy.
The training didn't stop there. Over the weeks, Cross was forced to endure makeup sessions. Crescent, with Killer's help, applied bright, exaggerated colors to his facial bones, filling him with blush and lip gloss. Cross felt his dignity as a royal guard slowly crumble every time he saw his reflection.
However, the most absurd thing was when Crescent taught him how to throw a child into the air. According to the little prince, it was a crucial activity for entertaining princesses. Cross, bewildered, had to throw Crescent several times into the sky and catch him, while the boy screamed in excitement and Killer calmly watched.
''Higher! Higher! This is not enough height! My Dad can do it better!'' Crescent shouted, laughing out loud.
As strange as all this seemed, Cross couldn't help but notice something curious.
Crescent, despite being a little boy who clearly enjoyed fighting and throwing knives more, was completely immersed in this training that seemed more suited for a little girl full of energy. This only added to Cross's confusion. Why had Nightmare ordered this type of training? What was the point?
Between make-up sessions, cups of tea and air throws, the training continued with no apparent explanation. However, Cross couldn't complain, knowing that defying a direct order from Nightmare was not an option. So, week after week, he continued to obey, not understanding the purpose of it all.
Meanwhile, in other parts of the castle, activity continued. The other Bad Guys continued with their meetings and strategies, but Cross, Crescent and Killer were excluded from these, busy with their *special training*.
...
One morning, while Crescent was teaching Cross about how to be fashionable and have good taste, forcing him to try on different cloaks and accessories he found in the castle, something interrupted the daily routine. In the meeting room, where Nightmare and the others were, an unusual noise was heard.
The echo of knocks echoed through the halls of the castle. Someone was banging on the front door.
This was unusual, as no one in the castle usually used the doors to enter or exit. Any local residents would simply teleport in and out of the castle, making these door knocks a strange occurrence.
Those present in the meeting room immediately became alert. Nightmare, sitting at the head of the table, raised a hand in a sign for them to remain calm. Although he didn't show any outward emotion, something in his gaze changed, as if he had recognized something in that sound.
''No one leaves here until I return'' he ordered with his deep and authoritative voice, slowly getting up from his seat.
The others looked at him expectantly, but no one dared to defy the order. Everyone knew that if Nightmare said something, it was best to obey. He headed towards the main door of the castle, his shadow projecting on the walls as he advanced with a firm step.
The echo of the knocks diminished every time Nightmare got closer to the door. In one swift motion, he flung the door open. And there, in front of him, was the figure of someone he knew but that he least expected to see at that moment.
